Peru Declares State of Emergency at Canadian mine site
Source: CBC news

The Peruvian government has declared a state of emergency at the site of a mine owned by a Vancouver company, saying its toxic chemicals are putting the capital's water supply at risk.

A 60-day state of emergency was put in place in the San Mateo district, 90 kilometres east of Lima, where Gold Hawk Resources runs the Coricancha metals mine.

Canadian companies that do foul abroad should be charged under our laws as well.

3. K&R
Those corporations are a huge threat for everybody. But poor Countries are the most vulnerable.

Bhopal,India December 1984:

"A Union Carbide subsidiary pesticide plant released 40 tonnes of methyl isocyanate (MIC) gas,
killing approximately 3,800 people instantly...

A more probable figure is that 8,000 died within two weeks, and it is estimated that the same number have since died from gas related diseases. However, testimonies from doctors who provided medical assistance during the tragedy claim over 15,000 were dead in the first month<1><2> and approximately 20,000 in total.<3>."

And Monsanto (Among others) is threatening everybody with their Frankenstein "Food" (GMOs).

4. I completely agree with your footnote.
BTW....I'm in Victoria now, but I lived in Vancouver for years. The halcyon days of the 60's and 70's. Great town.
