Bush May Back Iraq Intelligence Panel
<snip>

WASHINGTON - The White House is considering endorsing the creation of an independent commission that would investigate whether the United States used faulty intelligence information when it decided to go to war in Iraq (news - web sites), government sources said Saturday.

They said a statement of support from the White House could come this week

1. If the Repugs support this commission, you can bet...
...they will try to limit its scope to focusing on the intelligence agencies -- and not the White House.

They're probably trying to engineer a white wash like the one the Hutton report performed for Tony Blair.

2. I see Kissinger must have freed himself of other commitments
"Independent" commission plus "Bush agrees" equals "Bush crony in charge." And the stonewalling will begin--take 'em, let's see, oh, two-three months to decide on the make-up of the panel, 'nother couple o' months wrangling about who's gonna be on it, few more denying them documents, power of subpoena, whatever. Gets rolling way too late to have a report before the election, after which who cares.

No big deal. 9/11 commish all over again.

It's called "kicking the can down the road."

3. Agreed.
But it is an about face from his position only this week.

One thing it says, the Bush cabal is on the defensive.

All the write in for Dems in the Republican primaries in NH are making an impact.

Hell yea! Open it up.

4. He does not have a ...
choice but to "back" this. Anything less will be seen too openly as an attempt to conceal the truth. That being said he will not only "back" it, he will likely try to stack it as well!

It could be a first.

7. I'm guessing that this will only help the WH to remove Cheney
that or his scheduled heart attack, happening, about.......now, to bump such news off the page and to absolve lil' George of blame.

8. he's between
a rock and a hard place and he knows it. He has to at least appear to investigate, while figuring out a way to stonewall evidence.

9. Saw a Bushbot this morning
on CNN(?) advocating Woosley to head the investigation. By the end he was just about frothing at the mouth and babbling inanities. Even the news reader wasn't buying his shit anymore.

13. "Wait for the panel to do its work."
They want a commission to keep the issue suspended until after the election. It won't work though.

Bush either had good intelligence and lied about it, or he went to war on bad intelligence. How could he go to war on bad intelligence 1.5 years after 9/11?
