House Republican leader rips Bush (for going to China - refers to him as "Beijing George")
Source: The Hill

A House Republican leader is lambasting President Bush on his decision not to call Congress back into session to deal with the energy crisis.

In a legislative update sent to GOP members and staff on Tuesday, Republican House Policy Committee Chairman Thaddeus McCotter (Mich.) accused "Beijing George" Bush of throwing House Republicans "under the bone-dry bus" on his way to the Olympics in China.

House GOP leaders last week called on Bush to convene an emergency session of Congress, but the White House said such a move would not make a difference because Democrats would not call for an up-or-down vote on offshore drilling legislation.

McCotter, known for his frank and sometimes unusual political opinions, was not pleased with that decision. His memo stated, "Today, in his final term, the wildly unpopular President George W. Bush boarded Air Force One bound for the Beijing Olympics and a meeting with his chum Hu Jintao, the dapper ruler of a nuclear armed, communist dictatorship. ... Perhaps our Compassionate Conservative-in-Chief will bring our absent Democrat Congress some 'Made in (communist) China' souvenir t-shirts: 'Bush went to Beijing and all I got was this lousy five week, paid vacation.' "

The memo ends, "Bon Voyage, Mr. Bush! House Republicans will fight on for America!"

1. Like it or not, China is going to be the next world power. If bush can go there and not
completely act like an ass, he might actually help the U.S. for once.

Seriously, though, ignoring China, especially with the global issues we're confronting, is not good.

6. Too Late
Or haven't you heard about the speech he's giving prior to flying to China?

Ignoring China isn't a good idea at all, but kissing their asses, while he makes speeches about human rights doesn't exactly send out a very convincing message, does it?

There will come a time when the US will probably have to confront China, and it would be better if the Chinese actually felt that the US was actually a country that could back up it's rhetoric about freedom, democracy, and human rights.

And I emphasize the word rhetoric.

In other words if China feels that the US is a paper tiger, it will deal with the US the same way that the US has dealt with 3rd World countries, as if it were of no consequence.

Besides, China controls a lot of the US debt, so they can do what they please and they have nothing to fear from the United Corporate States of America.

9. We shouldn't ignore the fact that they are totalitarian regime..
with a horrible human rights and environmental record. Wall Street hearts the Chinese totalitarian government though, so I suppose they'll hold on to power for the foreseeable future.

18. "..is going to be the next world power.."?
Try, they already are. The world is leaving America behind. We had a golden chance in 2000 to become a true dominant power in the world, but it was taken away from us by the SCOTUS.

3. Looks like somebody has a tough reelection fight
Arond this time of year, as in 2006, we can expect Republicans to start talking about how "independent" they are.

10. After Gulagtanamo and Abu Ghraib little boots is going to lecture
China on human rights. That should go over real well. With any luck he'll get locked in the toilet of Air Force One for a couple of days.

11. McCotter is from an area devastated by outsourcing, downsizing, foreclosures, paycuts and insecurity
The western and northwestern burbs of Detroit. Many are unemployed. Many more are underemployed. Folks are worried shitless.

And McCotter has been a total shill for Bushco.

He's in trouble.

12. China ain't communist anymore McCotter. They are fascist.
Conservatives rarely have any problem dealing with fascists. Authoritarianism is fine coupled with capitalism for conservatives. It's only a problem when it's coupled with socialism.
