Prosecutors lay out new information against Stevens
Source: Anchorage Daily News

New information filed late Thursday by federal prosecutors says Sen. Ted Stevens made more than $100,000 in profit off a Florida real estate deal after a friend secretly loaned him $31,000 interest-free to buy a condominium.

The condo deal came to light in a motion describing what sort of evidence federal prosecutors plan to introduce in their case against him.

Stevens, 84, was charged last month with failing to disclose more than $250,000 in gifts from the former Alaska-based oil services company, Veco Corp. The trial is scheduled for September.

Stevens failed to report the personal loan in the condo deal when he filed his 2001 Senate financial disclosure forms, prosecutors said in their motion.

4. This is one tremendous article. Can't wait until he gets to trial.
Thank god someone just kept after this story, and didn't give up.

This one may be harder to cover up now this much is known publicly.

Thanks, so much, Blue_In_Ak.

5. Prosecutors: Senator helped oil contractor
WASHINGTON - An Alaska contractor appealed to Sen. Ted Stevens to help win federal contracts, obtain grants and settle immigration issues, federal prosecutors say.

The Justice Department stops short of calling that corruption, but prosecutors want to present that evidence at trial next month.

The Alaska Republican is charged with lying on Senate financial disclosure records about hundreds of thousands of dollars in gifts and services he received from contractor VECO Corp.

In court documents filed late Thursday, prosecutors say Stevens pushed for a natural gas pipeline that would have benefited VECO. While the pipeline project stalled in the Alaska legislature in 2006, prosecutors say Stevens offered to use his Washington connections to try to advance the deal.

"I'm gonna try to see if I can get some bigwigs from back here to go up there and say, 'Look, uh, you just gotta make up your mind, you gotta get this done,'" Stevens told VECO founder Bill Allen, according to court documents.

8. Hi, Dave!
I'll bet old Ted is wishing now that he hadn't asked for that speedy trial. Do you suppose there's any chance at all that he'll drop out before the primary, or is the state Republican party cooking up some kind of end-around? I just don't see how he can survive this despite all of his cheerleaders. It's obvious from the readers' remarks at the end of these articles, that the Tedophiles don't seem to understand that public officials are held to a different standard than us ordinary folk.

10. I think after what came to light here,
the AK repugs are going to ask uncle ted to step aside and let someone else have a chance. Who that will be, I don't know. As for the tedophiles(LOL), they seem to have a really bad case of relativism when it comes to breaking the law. I guess as long as they get a cut of the action from the crime, they'll let you do anything.

9. Feds List Favors Stevens Allegedly Did For Oil Firm
Source: TPM

Federal prosecutors have never tried to say Sen. Ted Stevens provided any illegal favors to VECO, the Alaska-based oil and gas company that helped renovate his home.

Rather, the senator's indictment charges only that he accepted gifts from the company and failed to disclose them in Senate financial reports.

But in new court filings last night, the feds laid out evidence from wiretaps and seized emails to show in detail some favors Stevens allegedly did for the company. Prosecutors made the disclosure in a motion seeking to introduce the information at Stevens' trial set for September.

One of those alleged favors concerns a proposed pipeline .............
