Putin warns Europe not to support U.S.
Source: UPI

MOSCOW, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has warned Europe against following U.S. leadership regarding the Georgian crisis.

Putin made his remarks in advance of Monday's European Union emergency meeting on the subject, RIA Novosti reported Saturday. Russia has officially recognized the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia from Georgia, drawing condemnation as an "irresponsible decision" from the United States and other Western nations.

"If European countries continue carrying out such policies, we will have to talk to Washington about European matters," Putin said in a Friday interview with Germany's ARD television.

He also pointed out Europe had recently backed the United States and supported Kosovo's declaration of independence in February, while a Russian-backed resolution in the United Nations on Serbia's territorial integrity was "thrown in the garbage."

Russia had argued that accepting Kosovo's independence might lead to a "chain reaction" amongst other regions seeking autonomy.

16. Are you saying that
because she is a woman?
Are you saying Joe Biden can work it out one-two-three because he is a man?
Have any of W's men who are just as experienced as Biden succeeded in creating a Palestinian state that is acceptable to Israel?

20. You're an anti-Obama troll trying to promote the GOP ticket
And no, I'm very glad Hillary isn't at the top of the Democratic ticket but the problem is McCain on the
ticket, no one else. Palin is just a useful idiot.

Modern Republicanism (including anyone who would vote for one) is reserved for sociopaths and the ignorant.

21. That's a silly thing to say!
Why would anyone waste his/her time promoting the GOP in DU or the Democrats in freerepublic?
We are debating/discussing. I have as much right to my opinion as you have to yours.
I think Sarah Palin is a very interesting person and it would have been great to see her debate Hillary.

22. Don't even try -- we've heard all of this before
Your trolling guidelines are:
1) Don't be inflammatory and avoid being tombstoned.
) Be careful not to directly attack Democrats, etc, etc, etc.

You guys come here all the time. We've heard it all and no, you don't have the right to an anti-Democratic
ticket opinion on a private board that is run by Democrats. That is against the rules. I've alerted on you.
Funny how "socialist" the GOPhers become, invoking their GOP-hated "Bill of Rights" and defying private
ownership, when it comes to slamming Democrats.

No, I don't come here all the time. I think I have less than 2000 posts in more than 5 years. Guess what, I don't even have a vote, but if I were a US citizen I would have voted for Hillary, yes, and no, I don't post in the republicans' board, although I read it too, sometimes.

I hope you don't have high blood pressure.

25. In any case
If you aren't in the US, and don't have to live under the wrath of a GOP administration, your opinion is meaningless
to me anyway and somewhat offensive. I didn't support Hillary in the primaries for the same reason I didn't support
Bill in his primaries -- they're too much under the control of big business. But I'd support either one over the
best Republican.

27. I went to school in the US
My husband is a conservative. I guess people working for oil companies are mainly conservative, but I'm a liberal, or so I thought, until I took this online test, which tells us where we stand politically, and I turned out to be a libertarian.
Btw, I wanted to post in the republicans' board too, the same time I joined here, but I lasted only about six posts, and then they cancelled me.

Anyway, this election is very interesting. I watched the Democratic convention, and I'll be watching the other side's convention. I think many people are curious about Sarah Palin.

30. This is an all Democratic board run by and for Democrats
If you attempt to talk up the GOP, you'll be locked out. That's only to be expected. The freeper
boards are far less tolerant and will lock you out immediately. The freepers take glad advantage
of this board all the time.

I used to be a liberal libertarian. George Bush changed me. I now see the vital necessity for a
strong central government to keep the crooks at bay.

28. She doesn't have experience
in foreign affairs. I guess McCain is already coaching her. See how she does at the convention, and I'll be very interested in her debate with Joe Biden. She could fall flat on her face, but Joe Biden better not 'misunderestimate' her. We'll see!
Many people seem to trust men more. As if women can't be good too. I happen to think women are/can be much better than men!!!

32. I didn't say
that she can handle it. Nobody knows that. Yes, I READ that she is bright and one EXPECTS bright people to learn quickly. What I said was that women can be as good as or better than men.
We'll see how she does at their convention and the debate(s).

I find general elections very interesting, not only the US election, but also in other countries (Britain, France, Russia, Pakistan, Australia, etc). More interesting than going to the movies. Movies have to wait. Next week, after the convention I'll be catching up on movies.
We have three TVs in the house, and they're on different channels. We mainly watch BBC, CNN, Foxnews, and ABC (Australia).

33. This has nothing to do with her being a woman-
this has everything to do with her lack of experience. This has everything to do with her anti-woman stances on choice, birth control, etc. I'd pay to see her have a debate with Hillary-Hillary would mop the floor with her. Not even close.

37. Well, she was picked
so she has to tackle her experience problem. She must be studying every day.
I would like to see her debate Hillary too, but it will be Biden.
I find choice and birth control very delicate/touchy subjects. People can get so upset. Some go on the attack and namecall, so I try and stay out of those debates. They're parallel debates. You never meet, you can never agree.

41. Do you have a clue what it is like to campaign?
Edited on Sun Aug-31-08 02:32 PM by Oak2004
I do. Been there, done that, with a potential constituency of only about 20,000. It's a couple of months with no sleep to speak of, no free time to speak of, an irregular schedule, and crappy food. Both times I ran, I was physically ill for a while afterwards.

Do you know how much information you need to digest before you're even marginally qualified in the matters of foreign affairs and national security? You can get this information without getting a degree, of course, but it's about equivalent to a B.A. That's to be marginally qualified. To be genuinely competent, think at least master's degree -equivalent.

I don't care if she is Einstein (and there's plenty of evidence she is not): she cannot possibly learn what she needs to know in a few months while campaigning (or recovering from a campaign).

This is not a board for libertarians. And I'd prefer it wasn't a board for people who speak of things they know nothing about (but, alas, that's not against the rules, or they'd need to invent the double crust pizza here).

42. No, I don't know
what it's like to campaign. I can only imagine it. She has a baby, so she will need all the help from her family, and friends, and even then there won't be enough hours in the day.
We don't know how she'll do. She is a newbie. That is why she is even MORE interesting to watch.

In my circle of friends some are very interested, like me, the others prefer to play tennis, and are just lukewarm when it comes to current affairs/politics, but we all said, "WHO?"
Obviously, as women, we're all interested in how this woman, who came from nowhere, will do.
My sister lives in NY. She's married to one of you. Her candidate got nowhere.

I'm sure a lot of eyes will be on Palin. Obviously lots of people want to know if McCain and his advisors have made a good choice or a totally stupid one. Maybe the verdict will be 'so-so.'
Anyway, it's the voters who decide. Even if she is an Einstein, if voters don't like her, that's the end of her.
I heard on TV that McCain actually wanted Lieberman or another guy (I forgot his name), so one can say she was his third choice.

34. If I'm not mistaken
the US has over 700 bases around the world. It sounds high and I'm probably wrong, but I think that's what I heard on TV.
Think of the cost to maintain all those bases, but a pundit on TV said that Americans like to win, like to be number one in the world. I guess that must be why they have to be everywhere and try to influence everybody. Unless you want the Chinese to take over. Then there is India, and Russia...

39. I have no problem with the Chinese or anyone else taking over.
We still have enough nukes to blow up the world many times so I doubt any other nation/country will attack us. The group of terrorists ...well that's a police matter, not a military one and that's been the problem with the idiots in power. If they and country had not gone off on a knee jerk reaction and instead trained CIA infiltrators and CIA special forces, they could have sniped the leaders by now and I have heard other very informed, intelligent and x-military people say the same thing.

but I'm sure others won't like to see China being the top. I think some people already don't like it that China got the most medals at the Olympics. Good thing Michael Phelps won eight golds.

I don't get the obsession with Iran. Why would Iran attack another country? That would be suicide. Surely, Iran doesn't want to selfdestruct.
We have been to Tehran. Beautiful city, but I didn't like the food. I think Iran is a beautiful country (with gorgeous rugs!) and I hope that it won't be destroyed like Iraq.

Both Ossetia (Osettia?) and Abkhazia, are already occupied by Russia. Who is going to push Russia out of these two provinces? Who is going to fight big Russia for little Georgia?
Europe and British Petroleum prefer peace because Europe needs the oil that comes through the pipeline across Georgia.
