Hurricane won't alter plans for Republican convention: officials
Source: AFP

ST. PAUL, Minnesota (AFP) - Republican officials said Saturday there were no plans to postpone the party's convention here next week due to Hurricane Gustav, which threatened to strike New Orleans by Tuesday.

As rumors swirled that President George W. Bush might cancel plans to address the convention Monday with the deadly storm bearing down on Louisiana, the officials said there had been no changes to the schedule.

"There are no plans for any postponement," said Mike Miller, convention director for operations.

"If a governor decides to stay home then we will make changes to the schedule. But as of today there are no changes," Miller told a press briefing.

White House spokesman Carton Carroll confirmed that Bush had not changed plans.

1. Good. Maybe they'll get no coverge.
But those poor folks along the coast - they're the ones to be most concerned about.

11. If anything...
The rightwing media will cover the convention instead of the devastation about to occur.

4. Well, there you go then.
More pictures of Republicans eating cake, playing guitar and partying while their citizens die. Maybe this time, it will be remembered by the people of the US (the ones that weren't in the affected areas, since they remember plenty) when it comes time to vote for who will actually DO something to help them, who actually cares about the plight of the suffering.

6. The only reason they might cancel it is if many of their attendees stayed home
because Gustav threatened their mode of transportation.

The RNC needs every single attendee it can get and losing those from the southern states would mean empty seats for the tv cameras.

8. they announced Palin
on the Friday before the last weekend of summer. That's normally the time you announce something you want to hide.

Maybe they want to hide her acceptance speech, not to mention McPain's, behind Gustav. Hope they can slip her through while nobody's watching?

9. Do Republican's communicate with one another? Old Man McCain
was saying he might postpone convention. Where's he been inside Rick Warren's "Cone of Silence."

10. The reason why they won't cancel is because it would cost them too much

14. I didn't think they would cancel...
all the delegate plane tickets are non-refundable. And now that the Gestapo and FBI have swept the city clean with pre-emptive raids on college kids and confiscated all their evil pamphlets... it's safe for the repukes to enter.
