Poll: Voters uncertain on Palin
Source: USA Today

ST. PAUL — Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin faces a getting-to-know-you process as the Republican vice presidential candidate, a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds: Most Americans say they've never heard of her.

There is also wide uncertainty about whether she's qualified to be president. In the poll, taken Friday, 39% say she is ready to serve as president if needed, 33% say she isn't, and 29% have no opinion.

That's the lowest vote of confidence in a running mate since the elder George Bush chose then-Indiana senator Dan Quayle to join his ticket in 1988. In comparison, Delaware Sen. Joe Biden was seen as qualified by 57%-18% after Democrat Barack Obama chose him as a running mate last week.

"Americans are just beginning to discover that Gov. Palin is an experienced executive who has held office since 1992 and demonstrated time and again her willingness to roll up her sleeves and taken action," says Maria Comella, Palin's spokeswoman for the campaign. "As governor, she has proven to be a real reformer, bucking the establishment to enact sweeping ethics reform, utilize her veto power to cut spending and stand up to big oil to enact legislation to develop Alaska's energy resources."

2. Part of me thinks so...
...but the other part fears that Palin will win people over with her "down-home" "spunk" and "charm" (and the eye-candy factor of being a former beauty queen among the male electorate), and all of the manifest flaws she has will be brushed of as "who cares? -- she's just running for vice president, not president."

And the fact is that there are some women in the electorate who will vote for the ticket just because she's a woman...and, more importantly, will brook no criticism of her, labeling it all as "sexist."

25. You may want to rethink that statement........
Here are some reminders of recent past presidential Selections......

snip>The head of a company vying to sell voting machines in Ohio told Republicans in a recent fund-raising letter that he is "committed to helping Ohio deliver its electoral votes to the president next year." <snip

snip>The letter went out the day before Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell, also a Republican, was set to qualify Diebold as one of three firms eligible to sell upgraded electronic voting machines to Ohio counties in time for the 2004 election.<snip

33. McCain thinks all women are bimbos
John McCain has a disturbing pattern of treating women as nothing but airheaded, disposable arm candy.

McCain’s first wife, Carol, was a swimwear model, not the most respectful “job” for a woman. He displayed her with pride to his buddies, flaunting her sexuality as if “having” her made him a man.

And when Carol was disfigured and crippled in a car accident, McCallous had affairs with numerous women, finally settling on a rodeo beauty queen 18-years-his-junior. He married Cindy, the silicone-chested, botox-faced beer heiress before the ink was dry on the divorce from his first wife. Cindy became a well-known drug addict.

Now he picks Sarah Palin as his running mate, a vacuous former beauty queen whose qualifications include competing in the Miss Alaska pageant.
Apparently, McLame thinks women are so dumb that we’ll vote for him simply because he picked someone with a vagina as his running mate.

Someone should have told him he was supposed to be picking a vice presidential candidate, not his third wife.
More on his treatment of women:

38. Nope. Not at all.
This just indicates a general shift in direction. McCain is no longer going after independents - he's going after the hard-core Christian base that hates him, and wasn't planning to show up.

He has given many of them a reason to vote. Otherwise, some of the red states might have turned blue.

We will have to fight harder. I hope we stop being "logical" about this, and accept that lots of Americans vote with their guts, and their guts now say that the McCain-Palin ticket has more of the religious-right feel that they need. And so they plan to vote, now.

So now that we know that the Republican base is "energized", we will need to make sure that our base votes... and then some.

8. She held office since 1992???
Are they talking about the City Council part time 2 meetings a month position paying $6,000/year?? In 1992 the population was less than 5,000 people. I mean damn she was elected with less than 650 votes for her mayor gig!!

This is an example of the greatest country in the world? The world leader?

This is a joke and I can't believe that so many Americans are buying it! It's a total disgrace!! Can you imagine how the rest of the free world is laughing at us now??

12. I know. I lived in a town that size for a long time, and NOBODY took the town government
seriously, the mayor least of all.

People put more effort into coaching kid's soccer then they do small-town government.

This bogus claim of 16 years of political experience is beyond the pale.

32. 2003-2004 chair of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission
A 6 year appointment by the Governor but she quit after a year. See link for the details

Then...

For two years, she stayed out of politics, acquiring a business license for a marketing and consulting company named Rogue Cou, “a classy way of saying redneck,” Palin told the Anchorage Daily News in a June 2005 interview.

10. The Crime and the Cover-rup.........
THE CRIME AND THE COVER-UP.... At her kickoff event in Ohio yesterday, Sarah Palin boasted about having rejected congressional funds for the infamous "bridge to nowhere." Soon after, we realized that Palin wasn't telling the truth about one of her signature issues, on her very first day as a candidate for national office.

Now, some might say this is excusable, because Palin's remarks were written by McCain campaign aides, and the McCain campaign barely knows who Palin is. That's probably true.

But lying about an alleged abuse of power is far more serious.

Remember the expression, the cover-up is worse than the crime? It's plainly true in the case of Palin firing Alaska Public Safety Commissioner Walter Monegan. Take a look at this video, from the ABC affiliate in Alaska, and notice that Palin seems to have been caught, rather blatantly, misusing her power and then lying about it.

16. "Most Americans say they've never heard of her. "
You don't think?

But then why do more people than support Bush say she is ready to take charge as president?

Fact is the pro-Bushler media is pumping (sic) her up as a "maverick" and "independent". Rove will write her speeches.

Unlike the Democratic convention, Rethugs will get full media endorsement next week, no negative coverage, and the Red Carpet treatment.

Just listening to AP radio "news", now they say, in fawning admiration for these two total assholes and creeps, that McSame and Palin are going to Jackson, MS, cause they are concerned about those to be affected by hurricane Gustav. Implicit is that Obama is AWOL on this issue.

So, in the time I write this the media have been shown to be seriously sucking McSame's sphincter.

By November, how far into Cancer Cheek's colon will they have buried themselves?

18. She's scary
I don't like what I'm seeing so far. She could be serious trouble for us. On day one she was comfortable and engaging, same on day two. Her resume is clean and impressive. If Obama was not so locked in a fight with McCain it wouldn't make a difference but he just cannot make space between him and McCain. This WOULD NOT be the case if Hillary would have been shut out of the primary process. Palin will certainly get some (a little) of the female vote that Hillary would have owned all of had she been our nominee.

The media IS NOT eating her lunch. They are far more complementary than critical of her. Right now I can't see where the media can attack her without garnering sympathy for her. I don't know if you're paying attention but the media did nothing but attack Obama for practically all of August. What makes you think we can rely on the media to discredit her?
