Keep in mind that this is in Texas and Prairie View is a traditionally Black college.
AUSTIN -- Prairie View A&M University students who want to register and vote in Waller County must be allowed to do so, Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott ruled today. <snip>
Abbott's ruling was prompted by Waller County District Attorney Oliver Kitzman's recent challenge of Prairie View students' voting rights.
In a Nov. 5 letter, Kitzman, who is white, contended that students from the predominantly black school don't necessarily qualify to vote locally.
The dispute has prompted a protest march by students and black leaders and a civil rights investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice. <snip>
