Ohio puts Green Party candidates on ballot
Source: Columbus Dispatch

Wednesday, September 3, 2008 2:17 PM

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner has ordered that the Green Party national ticket be placed on the Nov. 4 ballot.

A spokesman for Brunner said Wednesday that she made the decision voluntarily in light of recent court rulings.

The Green Party's petition to make the ballot was rejected last month because it lacked the 5,000 signatures required in a Brunner directive regarding minor parties. Green Party presidential candidate Cynthia McKinney and vice presidential candidate Rosa Clemente sued Brunner in federal court.

A federal judge in Columbus on Tuesday ordered that the Green Party case be combined with a Libertarian Party case before a judge whose ruling last month paved the way for Libertarian candidates to be placed on the ballot.

5. If an organization which can't even collect 5,000 signatures in Ohio
poses a threat to the Democratic Party's chances in that state, then the Party has some pretty serious flaws.
