Consumer gloom suggests Obama victory: survey
Source: Reuters

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Democratic presidential candidate, Sen. Barack Obama, should benefit from consumers' dissatisfaction with the weak national economy, according to Reuters/University of Michigan Surveys of Consumers.

A close correlation exists between the cycles in the Index of Consumer Sentiment and presidential elections, the survey group said.

Over the past half century, nearly all presidential elections occurred in years in which the Sentiment Index was near its cyclical peak.

The two exceptions were 1980 and 1992, when confidence was near cyclical lows, and the incumbents Jimmy Carter and George H.W. Bush lost their re-election bids.

The current election marks only the third time in more than 50 years that confidence is near its cyclical low point during an election year, the survey group said.

1. From your keyboard to the voters ballots.
I had a nightmare last night. McShame won. And I was literally trying to figure out how to leave the country because I could not take four more years of repuke-dom. I've been depressed since I woke up.
Reading this made me feel better.
Thanks. :)

7. AMEN!!!
One of the few movies that I'll watch every time it comes on.

And I do hope we'll never give up the fight for a better, more liberal (OK, progressive - I'm an old hippie) US!:grouphug:

Me too! I laugh so hard, and yet, I'm really touched by the movie at the same time.

Tim Allen rolling around in the dirt, doing his best to get his shirt off ASAP, has me howling every time.

As for that fight, I will 'Never give up, Never surrender!' :grouphug:

3. Get Ready
More attacks and nonsense coming to keep people from talking about the important everyday issues. Don't let them dictate the direction.:applause:

5. It only underscores the absolute necessity
of getting each and every Democratic voter to the polls and getting each and every Democratic vote counted. This absolutely must be an in-your-face landslide, no bout a-doubt it.

6. Scary, but true.
I hate to admit it, but way deep down inside, I cheered $4/gallon gas because it made even conservatives notice that something is very, very wrong with Dubya's policies. It scares me that as the price of gas goes down, and news coverage of foreclosures decreases, we Americans will make use of our ultra-short memories and conveniently forget how much damage Bush has done to our country. Also, I may be a bit paranoid, but I can't help but suspect that Bush is starting to pull a few troops out of Iraq for the sole purpose of defeating Obama.

Didn't Bill Clinton's campaign, way back when, say "It's the economy, stupid!"? Well - it's still the economy, folks! It's not going to genuinely improve between now and the election, and I sincerely hope that we don't forget who - and whose Party - trashed it.
