Canadian archbishop returns top government award because abortion doctor received same honor

SAINTE-ANNE-DE-BEAUPRE, Quebec (AP) _ The archbishop of Montreal announced Thursday he is returning Canada's most prestigious award because an abortion doctor received the same honor.

Archbishop Jean-Claude Turcotte said that he hoped opposition voices like his would prompt officials reverse their July decision to give Dr. Henry Morgentaler the Order of Canada. The award is bestowed on Canadians the government feels have made a major contribution to the country. ...

2. Good. Give his award to someone who isn't trying to undermine basic human rights.
The Catholic church has a history of pressuring Roman Catholic member of parliament, not only on abortion, but more recently on same-sex marriage. MP's who voted in favour of legislation providing equal rights to gays have in some parishes.

Go ahead and give it back, Cardinal. You've got plenty of other bling.

rations and mandatory attendance at the church.
It is blackmail. I agree give it to
someone more deserving of rational thought.
