Dewhurst: 'Redistricting in this session is dead' (TX)

AUSTIN Ð Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst confirmed Friday that congressional redistricting will not be debated or voted on by the full Senate before the term ends next week, but he vowed that "sooner or later" a new plan will get approved.

"In essence, redistricting in this session is dead," Dewhurst said. "We will continue to do everything we can to bring everyone together."

The special legislative session can last a maximum of 30 days and must end Tuesday.

A bloc of 11 Democrats and one Republican have been holding firm in opposing redistricting in the Senate. That's enough to keep the bill from coming up for debate under Senate rules.

It looks like we've won for now. Perry is expected to call a second special session, but several Dems have said they may not bother to show up, which would prevent the redistricting bill from coming up. Dems have been all over this on the local news, talking about how $30 million+ was wasted on this special session for nothing.

3. There was also talk about a judge...
...who ruled that the Senators could not be forced to attend a session. So the opposition sijply has to stay home and bar-b-que, and there isn't anything that can be done about it.

Sweet!

It is gonna kinda suck when they start using the same tactics against us, but for now it's cool.

4. Ding-Dong the witch is dead!
'Course this ill-advised power grab by Bu$h, Delay, and Little Ricky cost us - the taxpayers of nearly bankrupt Texas - $1.7 MIL. These fuckers are shameless.

5. Great news for this Dem Texan.
I've sent so many emails to the TX Legislators and for once feel like it was worth the effort. Cudos to the lone Republican, who I think is Bill Ratliff.:toast:
