USA TODAY/Gallup Poll: Obama did better job in first debate
Source: USA Today

A new USA TODAY/Gallup Poll shows 46% of people who watched Friday night's presidential debate say Democrat Barack Obama did a better job than Republican John McCain; 34% said McCain did better. Obama scored even better -- 52%-35% -- when debate-watchers were asked which candidate offered the best proposals for change to solve the country’s problems....

The poll suggested the debate was to some extent a wash for McCain: 21% of those who watched say it gave them a more favorable view of him, 21% say less favorable and 56% say it didn't change their opinion much. Three in 10 said their opinion of Obama became more favorable after seeing the debate, compared to 14% who said less favorable and 54% who said it didn't make much difference.

More than one-third of viewers, or 37%, said they had less confidence in McCain to fix economic problems after seeing the debate; 23% said more. For Obama, the survey results were 34% more confidence, 26% less.

Neither candidate broke away on national security and foreign policy. About a third of viewers said they had more confidence in each man on that front after the debate, and slightly less in each case said they had less confidence....

1. McSame is toast!!
This debate focused on the topic of foriegn policy. Which was supposed to be McSames turf.

Instead, Barack made Mac look like the naive one.

This was Mac's one shot to hit one outta the park and he miserably failed. Instead, he hit into a double play. (Sorry for the baseball analogies but it is late sept ;) ).

This poll shows that only Mac's rabid base supported him in doing better in the debate.

Barack won the support of undecideds.

Barack will shred Mac in the coming debates on economics.

Peace

2. Agree. Inpendents wants consensus building and leadership, not partisan bickering and incompetence.
Barack won the Independents Friday.

McCain made a terrible mistake turning his campaign over to the Reich Wing. The only thing they know is partisan bickering and incompetence---they are what gave us Bush-Cheney.

10. Yeah, it's all over, we're all dead, the end is nigh
The GOP is so good at using discouragement and depression to control Democratic sentiment.

5. And it was spun, just now on MSNBC by some guy with Politico.com...
... that "it wasn't a blow out by any means".

Were the table turned, I'm sure they'd be SCREAMING WITH HEADLINES that McCain beat Obama handily. :eyes:

7. McCain came across as condescending and arrogant
Refusing to look Obama in the eye made him look like he was intimidated by him, in my opinion.

9. The eye contact thing made McLame look weak and unsure of himself
Not like the big, confident he-man he wants to portray.

It was a very bad move, and if someone actually advised him to do that, they should be fired. I suspect, however, that this was a natural reaction on his part.

11. I still wish Obama was a little more aggressive
McSame is treating him like a child and there is no need for him to keep taking the condescension.
