Anti-Palin rally calls for Colberg removal

TROOPERGATE: More than 1,000 protesters gather in downtown Anchorage park.

By KYLE HOPKINS

A protest slamming Gov. Sarah Palin's handling of the state's so-called Troopergate investigation -- and calling for the attorney general to lose his job -- drew more than 1,000 people to the Delaney Park Strip in Anchorage on Saturday.

Protesters chanted "recall Palin!" as organizers told the crowd to push state legislators to keep after their investigation into the governor's firing of her top cop.

An investigator hired by the lawmakers is scheduled to present his report on Oct. 10.

"This report needs to be released. Not just for us ... it needs to be released for all those people in the Lower 48 who are going to make a decision on Nov. 4," Democratic blogger Linda Kellen Biegel told hundreds of protesters gathered on the Park Strip grass.

<snip>

Like a similar rally two weeks earlier, the event gathered anti-Palin protesters from all corners. Some held signs saying "My body, my rights," while others criticized her views on aerial wolf-hunting.

Unlike last time, no organized counter-protest appeared.

1. Here's a thought, recall Palin. If she doesn't get elected vp, she loses all.
IF, for some heartbreaking reason she does get elected, what would it say that her job as gov was recalled? Too funny.

Thanks for continuing to report and to work on this. Indeed, people Outside need to know more about her.

Hundreds turn out for anti-Sarah Palin rally
The Associated Press

Published Saturday, September 27, 2008

People waved signs at honking cars headed downtown and listened to speakers in Saturday's rally organized by a group called Alaskans for Truth.

They were protesting that Sen. John McCain's GOP running mate has stopped participating in the state Legislature's investigation into her firing of Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan. The McCain campaign has said the lawmakers' inquiry is biased and driven by the election.

One demonstrator, Anchorage resident Vonda Roark-Martinez, carried a sign that said "Hey Sarah Can you see reality from Alaska?"

4. There's an active GD thread that DUers might want to add their thoughts/links about Sister Sarah to
2 daughters of Alaska, Susan Lindauer & Sarah Palin: a real spooky political conspiracy thread (started 9-21-2008)

6. I wonder if anyone in Alaska has thought of testing the recall waters vis a vis Governor Palin.

18. It has been talked about
and there were plenty of 'Recall Sarah' chants going through the crowd today. But I think that generally the consensus is that we will wait until she is back here after losing the election on Nov. 4. We want the media to concentrate on McSame for a while, there's enough unreported stuff there that he can lose this election without the worst VP pic in history.

7. A choice to disobey the legislative subpoenas
Colberg said his office has told the employees they had a choice to disobey the legislative subpoenas -- advice that has state legislators furious.

"We have advised people that is an option. And that we think the subpoenas have flaws," he said.

Fairbanks Republican Rep. Jay Ramras, chair of the House Judiciary Committee, charged "there is likely very irresponsible behavior coming from the attorney general."

Anchorage Democratic Sen. Bill Wielechowksi, a lawyer who is on the Judiciary Committee, said he is not impressed, either.

"I just can't imagine any attorney advising a client that a subpoena is voluntary," he said.

17. I was at her welcome home rally in Anchorage
a couple weeks back, and the crowds protesting against her today were much larger than those who showed up to greet her and listen to her speech.

19. I can understand why many Alaskans are beginning to not like her
When I moved to North Carolina, Jesse Helms was one of my senators, and the embarassment I felt at having such a hideous redneck from my state being on the national scene was tremendous. Sarah Palin is basically as much a hick as Jesse Helms. In fact I'd go so far as to say she is Jesse Helms only younger.

Once Upon a Time in Anchorage…The Story of a Rally.
Are you ready for another installment in the tale of Troopergate? Good.

As you may recall, we last left our story as Alaska State Rep. Les Gara (D), (who for our purposes will be envisioned with a nice shiny helmet atop a feisty white horse), called on the Alaska State Troopers to look into possible criminal witness tampering in the state’s bipartisan ethics investigation, known as “Troopergate.”

When now Republican VP nominee Sarah Palin was merely our humble governor, she agreed to cooperate in this little investigation regarding whether her lust for vengeance on her ne’er do well Alaska State Trooper ex-brother in law, overtook her sense of ethics, resulting in the firing of the Commissioner of the Department of Public Safety who refused to fire him. Palin, for our purposes here, is a frequently-embarrassing, spunky Queen who believes she is chosen by divine provenance, and who overestimates her own abilities, and underestimates those who now have her locked away in a tower somewhere so she can’t actually talk to people. And lets have Monegan as our good hearted, straight shooting, sheriff of the forest. Throw in a quiver of arrows. Ex-brother-in-law? Hmmm. Bar-brawling, bodice-ripping rogue who somehow managed to marry and unmarry the royal family to his, and their, dismay.

Who says Troopergate is dull and complicated?

16. I was there again today and it was amazing
This was the second rally we have had up here in the past 2 weeks against Sarah Palin. The one two weeks ago was attended by around 1,500 people and it was the largest political rally in the history of the state of Alaska. Today there were well over 500, maybe close to 1,000 and it was easily the second largest political rally in the history of the state. It was amazing. Normally living up here with believing in the things that most of us here believe in can feel kind of lonely, but these last two weekends are proof that we are not alone and I know this is the third time I have said it but I can't think of a better word it was a truly amazing feeling.

I don't have internet at home for the moment but as soon as it gets up and running again hopefully tomorrow, youtube videos will be posted.

21. The media is reporting that 1,200 were there yesterday
So if you apply the same math to the last anti-Palin rally we had, that probably means that there were closer to 1,500 there yesterday. It was the second largest political ralling IN THE HISTORY OF THE STATE OF ALASKA, and the one bigger was the Women Against Palin rally 2 weekends ago. The numbers might seem small to those of you who go to anti-war rallies with 10,000 or 100,000 people in bigger cities. But before the anti-Palin rallies the biggest I have seen was arround 100, and I have been to every rally up here in the past 6 or so years.
