Republicans Blame Nancy Pelosi's Speech for Voting Against Bailout
Source: TheImproper.com

Republicans in the House of Representatives blamed Democratic speaker Nancy Pelosi for the failed bail-out vote, claiming she had made a partisan speech toward the end of a discussion on the rescue plan.

In response, the Dow Jones Industrial Average posted its largest-ever one-day point decline on Sept. 29, plunging 777.68 points, or 7%, after the House of Representatives rejected the Bush Administration-backed $770 billion rescue plan for the nation’s struggling financial institutions.

Below are some excerpts from Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi's speech:

"hen was the last time someone asked you for $700bn? It is a number that is staggering, but tells us only the costs of the Bush administration's failed economic policies — policies built on budgetary recklessness, on an anything-goes mentality, with no regulation, no supervision, and no discipline in the system."

28. Pelosi could have done a hacket job on
Bush and the republicans if she would have given them all the
corruption and crimes of Bush and/or his republican controlled
administration of the last 12 plus years.
We know that the repblican took over control of the senate and
House around 1994 or 1996. Bush has every thing he demanded
passed and if not he just did as he d... well pleased anyway.

Because the republicans do not believe in our constitution or
laws apply to them anyway , their only use of our constitution
, flag or military is to wave it to the tune of a partisan
political tool..
Clintons economy was a balance budget and started paying down
our debt. Bush and republicans could not stand for the
"little people to be able to made ends meet and
Bush/Cheney started chopping with the double edge axe....

2. Pelosi is an idiot.
What a way to ask the opposition to vote for a bill. And what about the Dems. Don't they have a majority? Couldn't she keep her own troops in line?

20. I am from California
I most of the time find Pelosi to be out of touch. But here she was brilliant. She doesn't want to pass the Bailout, neither does Obama. But if they had stonewalled the bill and the wheels came off the tracks on the economic train they would have been blamed. So she just spoke the truth about the magnitude of the cost and put the blame for needing this bailout clearly on Bush and by implication, McCain because of 8 years of mismanagement. This gave the Republicans a petty reason, hurt feelings, to vote down the Bill. And McCain who had already claimed that he was responsible for passing the bill is now under his *ucking bus for good. Clearly Obama is the big winner. The economy may or may not tank but if it does the blame goes to the Republicans, especially McCain. Brilliant strategy. Here is Pelosi's speach. Bob

John McSame couldn't rally his troops enough to pass this bill--after claiming he did so much to push it through--it really shows what a lame duck he is, before he's even elected.

I'm glad she said it because it is true and a house representative has the right to say something like that before they have to vote for something that they'd rather not but are forced into by circumstance.

If the lady has to pick up a dead skunk, she has the right to say Pee-uuuu.

4. It's really about accountability
None of them wanted to be held accountable for their actions or inactions. W set the example over these past 8 years. They will use any excuse rather than take a stand one way or the other. They have no balls, none, nada, zip. Or maybe they just wanted to emulate McLame/Sarwah Isa Failin and be mavericks.

They didn't like something someone said so they voted against it? Really? Are they that immature? Hasn't Nancy ever said something they don't agree with before? Did that effect their votes? What a lame excuse. They sound like a bunch of babies.

8. I don't get it...
Maybe the repubs should look at themselves first. 133 of them voted nay on the bill. If a few of them had been adult enough to overlook Pelosi's speech instead of crying like 6 year olds, they could have passed this thing. I don't see the logic in voting nay and then pissing and moaning that the opposition screwed it up. I think everyone in Washington should grow up a little, evaluate this thing logically, and make an educated decision instead of playing the blame game. Just a thought.

39. We need to ask those 95 Democrats who voted against it--Why?
Who the hell cares about the Republicans and how they voted. Democrats had enough to pass it. Pelosi needs to get her act together, crack the whip, and get this shit passed.

So either they put that back in in some form, or they have to get the rest of the republicans on board who were promised.

41. I don't get it
Does that mean the ones who voted "yes" don't give a damn about homeowners. Are the 95 the only principled ones in the House?

It's very confusing the way the votes have divided both parties--it's like we have four or more parties now instead of two.

9. House Republicans voted against it 133 to 65
Since when did a speech from Nancy swing any Republican votes.
They are completely torn between supporting the President and their conservative pedigrees. This complete government intrusion into the markets just has to be the fault of a Democrat, and they are grasping at straws because they can't find any unity in their own party.

31. I'm glad the vote failed, no matter the reason. And trying blackmail with
the market won't work, either. Some savvy Asian or European buyer can come look for bargains.

Now the best thing Congress can do is go home and do nothing. Cause the Pretzledent warned us last week if we didn't pass it TODAY, then millions of Murikans would lose their jobs today, and my bank in my hometown would close today.

Guess what? None of that happened. Gasoline got a little cheaper, my bank is still open, and I don't know anybody who got fired today.

As time goes on and nothing is done and dire consequences don't erupt, it will be clear that this was a simple holdup of taxpayers for the benefit of (literally) the robber barons.

CONGRESS, YOU'VE DONE ENOUGH! NOW GO HOME!

....let the bill die (preferably) and let the blame-game begin....I wouldn't change a word of it or do anything until these slimy Republican bastards were willing to step-up and keep the vote bi-partisan....

....if we jam this bill through and the bailout goes south, we'll be running against this vote for the next 20 years....we'll be handing the repugs a new smear campaign....

....'Bailout-Democrats' will replace 'Liberal-Democrats' as the new ubiquitous repug slogan....
