WASILLA, Alaska, Sept. 30 -- Gov. Sarah Palin maintained a private e-mail account that she used to communicate with a small circle of staff members outside the state government's secure official e-mail system, according to the Wasilla company that established the site.

Beautiful (allegedly), slimy and devious, all while dressing in fantasy costumes of Puritan and Huntress. :puke:

25. She's Bush's twin
in a skirt. Everything bad about him, we see it in her. The same lack of intellectual curiosity, lack of interest in anything that doesn't impact her personally, rigid dogma, don't blink, don't think, just act and never look back. She is the same slimy sneaky unethical and uncaring person as he is.

31. She's more of an unholy hybrid of Bush and Cheney
Edited on Wed Oct-01-08 02:29 PM by brentspeak
The fake, folksy persona of Bush (plus, Bush's ignorance on most matters), combined with the crafty vindictiveness and secrecy of Cheney.

34. Bush/Cheney redux. PLUS
She actually believes the fundie literalist Dominionist crap. Bush and Cheney only leverged it and played up to it for political reasons. Palin is only political for religious reasons. Big and scary (scarier) difference, imo.

30. She has a small amount of street smarts, but she is otherwise utterly and completely vacuous
Her "intelligence" is housed in the brain stem, i.e. the survival instinct.

She is devoid of any higher intelligence.

8. why would she use a private email account to send communications to her staff?
does your boss send business related email to your private account? her .gov email is backed-up and archived. she's trying to avoid a paper trail by conducting official govt business using a personal email account.

18. Because it's meant to avoid record keeping and accountability with re. gov't business.,
esp. in case of possible criminal investigations. If the first thing a newly elected official does on attaining office is set up systems designed to avoid the paper and electronic trails that regulation says have to be kept for transactions on gov't accounts, on gov't business, then it's fair to suspect that the newly elected official intends to enter into transactions and dealings using the elected office's clout, that they want forever hidden from the public, from review. And esp. well hidden from any official investigations or "fact finding" efforts that might occur in future.

Of course, no such regulations cover an elected official's personal dealings. But that's just it, the regulations are meant to distinguish personal from official public business. In mixing the two by setting up private acc'ts for gov't business, an official is not just acting suspiciously, the official is acting underhandedly in a way that's designed to avoid rules and regulation.

26. Yeah, I think it could be big.
Very good point.

Could be big. How big... depends.
Remember, Sarah Palin is being investigated for abuse of
office (public corruption).

As a general principle the people have a right to have their elected
representatives conduct official duties in an open and transparent manner.
It is, after all, the people's office, not the official's office.

Now some people in office, particularly those who are not educated,
or who channel from a 'higher power', don't seem get this or disregard it.
They treat the office as a personal "corporate" office, or "kindom",
which it isn't, and sometimes they simply refuse to obey laws they don't like.
We call the former "corrupt" and the latter "outlaws" or "criminals".

The purpose behind the general "transparency" principle is to assure
review of legality of executive actions and to guard against corruption.
Corruption is what happens when a public office is used for personal
or other illegal purposes.

Thus, people have a great interest in having office holders use a
specified method of communicating to subordinates, and not have directives
and orders sent by unregulated means. That does not
always mean they need to be public, for there is a realm of executive
privilege, but suffice it to say that (for example) an illegal order would
not fall within it, nor would "pressuring" someone to do something illegal.

If Sarah Palin doesn't know the difference between a legal order and an
illegal one, doesn't understand (or has no regard for) laws (inc the
laws re extortion), thinks that she can do anthing whe wants until
she is caught (or a court tells her otherwise) and there will be no
consequences (I am advised by sources that this is sometimes
called "pretty girl syndrome")...

So her private life can be private, but her official life is public.
Did she mix the two. Some appear to think she did. I know I do.
And its an especially important political point.
Can the world really afford another corrupt secret shadow US government?
Palin's conduct raises this serious political question.

That's what is big.

16. ..."and the person she sleeps with..." ???

"Quentin Algood, owner of ITS Alaska and a Palin supporter, said a discreet email system was created from the old PalinForGovernor website, which now refers to Palin’s page on the McCain website. Algood said access to these emails was limited to

a group of people, her closest confidants and co-workers and advisers and the person she sleeps with."

20. I know, but if they were referring to her husband,

then why not just say "her husband"? The phrase is worded very ambiguously, to the point where one might presume the ambiguity was intentional.

not that she herself had 15 accounts of her own. Not that it really matters though. This sounds more like a real issue than the yahoo thing.

It seems that she was thoroughly vetted because she is, as noted above, Rove's wet dream and then some. This is not by accident, they didn't just stumble upon her, they knew really well who they were bringing on board. Course, McCain himself probably didn't but he's irrelevent to the machine.
