Minnesota Poll: Obama leaps ahead of McCain
The Democrat's lead in the state is tied to the economy, the debate and new party strength.

By BOB VON STERNBERG, Star Tribune

Last update: October 5, 2008 - 7:50 AM

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has opened up a commanding lead in Minnesota over Republican John McCain, according to a new Star Tribune Minnesota Poll.

The poll, conducted last week among 1,084 likely voters, found that 55 percent support Obama, while 37 percent back McCain.

That's a huge difference from the last Minnesota Poll, conducted in September, which showed the race dead even, with each candidate backed by 45 percent of likely voters. The new poll shows that Obama's surge in the state can be attributed to voters' belief in his ability to deal with the nation's worsening economy, his performance in the first presidential debate and an increase in the number of Minnesotans who call themselves Democrats.

14. Speaking of yard signs
I was just out and about and decided to cruise around the neighborhoods in my small town and saw about 30-35 yard signs for president. Final tally: Obama +14

GOBama!

17. That's why we need a double digit lead in every state
So they will have a REALLY hard time stealing it.
I'm sure their methods have improved since 2004.

5. I live in north Minneapolis
and there are only Obama signs up here (Keith Ellison's district; the first muslim elected to Congress).

I drove through Edina (a wealthy suburb) on accident yesterday, and the McCain signs were quite jarring. There were still some Obama signs there, though.

24. There are a lot of McCain signs in Bloomington as well
I figure Obama signs are harder to come by and I take comfort in remembering that both Edina & Bloomington narrowly went to Kerry last time. And if those two 'burbs did that after 4 years of Bushco, I would think 8 years might cause a landslide.

29. I live close to the river, near Midway in St. Paul--total sea of Obama
Except for a few Coleman signs here and there near pricey Summit Ave. houses, we've got this district. Above all, we went for Mondale. We've got an unbeaten streak of Dem electors. :)

9. MN Poll
Yay! Holy cows, the polls have been heart-attack inducing here lately. I'm in central MN, and on my way north yesterday, the road was strewn with McSame/Failin' signs. All I've seen are the negative McSame attack ads around here. At our local DFL meetings, folks have been worried about the lack of Obama TV campaigning.

Finally saw a positive Obama ad on health care today. And now this good news. Nice to wake up to!

If you're in MN - look for these ads on WCCO. I suddenly love this station: Politcal Ad Break

I'm hoping he will keep his promise and use the brief time between the new Congress taking office and the new President taking office to impeach Bush and Cheney.

20. That will also be good news for Al Franken.
Plus, if the numbers remain that lopsided, they're going to trigger a discouragement factor among GOP voters who see the writing on the wall and the seemingly insurmountable lead and figure there's no use - why the hell even bother this time - fuck it, let 'em have it - what's the point - let's just stay home.

And that will be good for EVERYONE with a "D" at the end of his/her name, all the way down the line.

I never heard of that pollster before, I gather it only talks to conservatives.
