Obama buys 30 minutes on 10/29 FOX, NBC, CBS, MSNBC
Source: Multiple

From NBC/NJ's Athena Jones
The Obama camp is confirming they have bought 30 minutes of air time in primetime on "the networks" Oct. 29.

*** UPDATE *** The Obama campaign stresses it is not saying which networks -- as yet.

*** UPDATE 2 *** The campaign now says it has bought 30 minutes of ad time in primetime Oct. 29 on CBS and NBC and Fox -- if there's no World Series game. They are still negotiating others.

*** UPDATE 3 *** At least NBC's timeslot is 8 p.m. ET.

Funny that ABC seems to be out of the buy even though they report it.

McCain's campaign is quickly running out of money and by this time Obama should have the airwaves all to him self.

Expect 30 minutes of calm reassurance. They have it scripted down to the last hours.

6. They are legally obligated to accept advertising
but realistically they would love to have it - have the money and take the ratings away from the other stations.

30. Or some of their affiliates will mysteriously go off the air in key markets during the ad,
just like a recent 60 Minutes report did on CBS affiliates that covered a damning report on the Repubs.

9. McCain gets 2 hours of free prime time ads every day!
At least Obama will get a few minutes on that one day.

Too bad Democrats have to pay to get equal time with in the Republican owned media.

18. I'd like to see Congress make news a commercial product.
Then, anything they try to shove down our throats would have to have an implied warranty of merchantability.

This way, they wouldn't be allowed to peddle their crap as "news" wenever they know it isn't true.

That would solve a lot of this propaganda nonsense.

14. CBS: Wednesday, Oct. 29, at 8 p.m
http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story/obama-buys-half-hour-cbs-prime-time/story.aspx?guid=%7BEDE84590%2DEAC4%2D4F7F%2DAE89%2D474A644D6157%7D&dist=hplatest
CBS confirmed media reports that Obama would broadcast a special Wednesday, Oct. 29, at 8 p.m. on the network

(snip)
Late Thursday, CBS confirmed the report and said it would " ... make an equivalent opportunity available to Senator McCain and other legally qualified candidates upon request."
With the exception of commercial advertising purchases, candidates usually don't buy such a large block of airtime. The last time it occurred was when Ross Perot broadcast a special in 1992.

like a special about him and his political views.

Of course, I'm just guessing...

20. As FogerRox pointed out in another thread, October 29 is the anniversay of Black Tuesday,
the stock market crash that precipitated the Great Depression (combined with vast irresponsibility, greed and lack of accountability by the rich, and stupid Republican policy).

--------

Obama maybe wants to preempt, not baseball, but people drawing parallels to Oct 29, 1929--and say something like "the only thing we have to fear is fear itself."

I think he should announce "National Give Back Day," on which all the multimillionaire CEO's who are absconding with golden parachutes and other vile thieves give some of it back.

39. McCain HAS the opportunity for equal time. He just can't pay for it.
that's not a fairness doctrine issue. there was never anything that prevented one candidate from outspending another.

31. Saw That And It Made Me Think.. I Got A Call From The Obama
campaign a couple days ago and they wanted me to donate over the phone.

It was the first call I had ever received from them and they asked if I would double my previous contribution. I stated that I would have to check my finances first and would make any donation on-line to which the campaign responded that many had given a similar response (preferring to donate on-line) but they were PLANNING A TELEVISION AD Campaign and would I reconsider and donate right now, over the phone.

I declined and was frankly not happy at what I felt was pressure (although less than previous campaigns had applied) to donate.

I am now kicking myself and will make that online donation promptly.

36. I believe the callers are paid based on sales
They're telemarketers. If they mail you an envelope, it can still be traced back to that specific caller, but if you donate online, the caller doesn't get anything -- hence the high pressure sales. The DCCC and a couple of other groups are running the same system.

At least, that's what I've heard. It seems believable.

34. The corporate media
must be reading the tea leaves. Remember when they wouldn't run ads by Democrats or Democratic 527s during major events. They wouldn't allow MoveOn to run an ad critical of the Bush cartel during the Super Bowl.
If Obama has a six point lead in the polls on election day he wins. Up to five percent is within range to rig the election.
