GOP Head Compares Obama to Bin Laden
Va. Party Leader Criticized, Including By McCain Team

Washington Post Staff Writer
Monday, October 13, 2008; Page B01

RICHMOND -- The chairman of the Virginia Republican Party has compared Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama to Osama bin Laden because of the Illinois senator's past association with Bill Ayers, who has confessed to domestic bombings as a member of the Vietnam War-era Weather Underground.

Virginia Democrats, and some Republicans, are outraged, saying these are the latest in a series of inflammatory statements that the GOP has made against Obama in Virginia, a state that has emerged as a crucial battleground in the election.

According to a report in this week's Time magazine, the Virginia party chairman, Del. Jeffrey M. Frederick (R-Prince William), told Virginia volunteers working for GOP nominee John McCain that Obama and bin Laden "both have friends that bombed the Pentagon."

~snip~

Yesterday, Frederick said he stood by the comparison, even though bin Laden planned the Sept. 11, 2001, attack on the Pentagon that killed 184 people and Obama was a child and hadn't met Ayers when the Weather Underground planted a bomb at the Pentagon in 1972. No one was hurt in that blast, in which a bomb exploded in a restroom and caused flooding and damage to computer tapes containing classified information.

1. All the GOP has is fear
It is all they have had since 9/11 and all they know.

I don't think the American people are buying into fear this time.

sorry, I couldn't resist - twisted sense of humor.

Of course violence is wrong, but it's easier to be forgiving when no one is actually hurt.

13. Well it caused a lot of property damage since it had several of those $500 toilet seats.
And a general could have caught his nuts on fire so it is serious.

33. I think I see a NEW AD!
These photos have to wrapped up in a 30sec ad, starting first with Ayers, then going on to show that Ayers was supported by Republican benefactors 50 million dollar! who also have given major contributions to McCain, then go on to these handshake pictures of all these major republicans with leaders from the Taliban to Saddam etc -- something catchy about whose shaking whose hands? Or "I wanna hold your hand" playing in the background.

follow the handshakes--Ayers with his benefactors, benefactors with McCain. McCain with Keating and Liddy, etc, then other Republicans shaking notorious hands. Done deal. "I wanna hold your hand"

too funny.

11. I hope
I hope that Barack bought enough air time that he can finally put this nonsense to rest along with the other myths of being a muslim, anti gun etc. Why isn't the present state of reality concerning Ayers coming out from his camp? Ayers is a respected professor in Illinois. If the damage that occurred in the restroom is the worst that happened what do you call the kids in high school that do the same thing?
One more thing that needs to happen and that is Barack needs to come down on Palin and her real associations as well. Her links to a witchhunting pastor and the Alaskan Independent Party along with its leader and his quotes needs to get out. As to the polls I don't believe them and as the pundits get closer to the election you will see the polling narrow. The economy will be percieved to be on the mend and less of a focus. By that time Palin will be percieved to have credentials. Barack cannot let this happen.

18. violence against property is different than violence agains people
The fact that, in this society, no distinction is made between the two is an example of how little regard we really have for real human beings over the value of property.
I am always outraged about the violence that police use against demonstrators who break a window or block a street and then claim that they are quelling violence.
The protestors at the School of the Americas, including priests and nuns, served long prison sentences for damaging a sign at the school....damaging government property.
The word violence is misused, and the word peace is subversive.

20. didn't palin's son vandalize a school bus by slashing the tires?
That could be considered a similar act of "terrorism"- a what if someone were on that toilet act. And the google tells me many terrorists get started by slashing things with knives! SCARY!

both were young-- and we are willing as a society to forgive the mistakes of impetuous (for you freeps -- google it. NO seriously, I want you to start learning stuff!) youth.

The Nazi tactics are WRONG. I don't care how desperate they are. But yes, this is good for our numbers--- and yet, bad for our country. Bad for our image world wide and super bad for Republicans. Are they trying to go out in a blaze of glory, clinging to the confederate flag?

Talk about out dated.

Slander? I am tired of the big boys abusing their power. How can us in the underclass believe and behave in the decent way, when our example amongst the overclass is one of lies and abuses?
