Barack Obama widened his lead considerably over John McCain in four key battleground states during the past three weeks, providing further evidence that the economic crisis has greatly enhanced the Democrat's advantage with just 21 days left before Election Day.

Obama holds double-digit margins over McCain in Minnesota, Michigan and Wisconsin and carries a nine-point advantage over his Republican rival in Colorado, according to polling conducted by Quinnipiac University for washingtonpost.com and the Wall Street Journal.

~snip~

In Michigan, more than six in ten voters said the economy was the "single most important issue" in deciding their vote. Among likely voters, Obama increased his lead over McCain from a four-point edge in a late September Quinnipiac poll to a whopping 16-point lead in the most recent survey.

Obama's 54 percent to 38 percent lead in Michigan helps to explain why McCain decided to pull down his ads and pull out the majority of his campaign staff from the Wolverine State last week -- choosing to fight, instead, in Pennsylvania, New Hampshire and Maine.

The data was similar in Wisconsin and Minnesota where Obama gained 10 points and nine points, respectively, in his margin over McCain since the September Quinnipiac poll; the Illinois senator led McCain in Wisconsin 54 percent to 37 percent, and held a 51 percent to 40 percent edge in Minnesota.

Poll: Barack Obama leading John McCain in Michigan (54 to 38)

DETROIT (AP) — A new poll shows Democrat Barack Obama leading John McCain in Michigan after the Republican candidate pulled his campaign from the state.

The Quinnipiac University (KWIN'-uh-pee-ak) poll released Tuesday of 1,043 likely Michigan voters conducted Oct. 8 to Sunday showed Obama with 54 percent, McCain with 38 percent and 7 percent undecided.

The telephone poll conducted by the Hamden, Conn. school in partnership with The Wall Street Journal and the Web site of The Washington Post has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

2. Well, it's almost impossible for the Repubs to "steal" Michigan now and have anyone with a brain
actually think that there's no problems with the result.

13. That's great news, but...
That's great news, but other than Colorado, those are states Obama basically NEEDS and can also depend on. Minnesota and Wisconsin have been a little competitive in the last couple of elections, so it's nice to see that their voters have come to their senses. Winning Colorado would be a HUGE victory for Democrats, and I think it would be enough to swing the election our way.

McCain didn't have a chance at winning Michigan. Republicans have been fooling themselves for the last few elections and they've gotten stomped here in Michigan every time. The best news about McCain pulling out of Michigan is that it will cost the Michigan GOP a ton of money and free publicity that they won't be able to counter. We're hoping for a tsunami here in Michigan that sweeps all the Republicans out of office both nationally and on the state level. RIP GOP.

Obama Leads in Latest Polls in Mich., Wis., Minn. MICHIGAN

15. I yelled a loud GO OBAMA when our local station announced Obama has a 17-point lead in Wisconsin.
Turned to MSNBC just in time to see Chuck Todd downplaying the numbers. His take on all three polls was that it was unlikely the spread was THAT broad. So polls are now now out of sync because Obama has larger leads? :wtf:

17. MI will probably get bluer
since GM is closing it's plant here in the Grand Rapids neighbor of Wyoming, MI. It's been here since the 1930's, and yesterday 1,400 people found out they're going to be unemployed in 2009. It's really sad to see that plant close--it was a monster. I'm worried about the pizza joint close to it--they have awesome food. I hope they'll get enough business to stay open. I think that a lot of folks who would normally vote R are thinking long and hard about pulling the lever next to D for the first time. The economy SUCKS here in Michigan. :scared:
