Sen. Clinton says 2nd White House run is unlikely
Source: AP

WASHINGTON - Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton puts the chances of her running for president again at near zero — slightly higher than the chances she gives for becoming Senate majority leader or a Supreme Court justice.

In an interview aired Tuesday on "Fox & Friends" on the Fox News Channel, Clinton, D-N.Y., was asked the chances, on a scale of 1 to 10, that she would be the next majority leader in the Senate.

"Oh, probably zero," she said. "I'm not seeking any other position than to be the best senator from New York that I can be."

Being nominated to the Supreme Court?

"Zero," Clinton said. "I have no interest in doing that."

Running for president again?

"Probably close to zero," she said. "There's an old saying: Bloom where you're planted."

The former first lady, who was elected to the Senate in 2000 and re-elected in 2006, said she looked forward to working as a senator with a Barack Obama administration.

1. We need to change her mind and work on Obama
She's be so incredible as a SCOTUS judge. Oh my goodness. Someone with so much knowledge and experience from Nixon to now, that is thoughtful and makes considered decisions instead of always just beating the ideological drum? WOW.

She can bloom there, dangit.

If you were her. It would energize the fundie base. Give it time.

23. You're kidding right?
Not older than 45? I would say not younger than 45 for sure. I want someone with some life experience in their belt. Obama is an unusual fellow. He was probably born with an old soul. But he is exceptional all around. 45-65 is a good age range nowadays.

She said that repeatedly, before she ran for President.

9. I believe her completely!
The Primaries are over. I don't expect anything less/more that what she has said today. Her treatment by Democrats during the Primary was abusive. I wouldn't try again either.

19. I don't believe she ever said
she would not run for president. She promised to complete her first Senatorial term, which she did. She said nothing past that, that I can recall.

If you can show me where she ever previously said she wouldn't consider running for president, please enlighten me.

If you are referring simply to a statement that she wanted to be the best Senator from NY that she can be, I don't see where she has not fulfilled that. She has been a damned good Senator.

Hillary Clinton 'not seeking presidency'

Hillary Rodham Clinton, the wife of former US President Bill Clinton, says she has no intention of running for the White House herself, either next year or in 2008.
She was speaking in an interview with ABC television to publicise her new book of memoirs.

34. "Intention" is not the same word as "Will"
Thus a statement that she has "no intention" to run [in 2004) or in 2008" is NOT a promise not to run. All it says is she had no intention is 2003 to run in 2004 or 2008. The only promise I heard her say was she would complete her first term as Senator, that was in 2000 and her first term ended in 2006. What her plans were after 2006 was kept open.

3. I'll always love Senator Clinton
and I think this gives her a great opportunity to be the to the Senate in the early 21st century what Ted Kennedy has been for the late part of the 20th century.

And that would not be a bad legacy at all.

39. She really is unlikely to have the legislative career that EMK had - nor does anyone else
He may have the longest list of major accomplishments of any legislator. He has been there since 1962 - 48 years! He has had many years as one of the most senior people in the Senate and he heads the very important Health, education, labor and pensions committee. HRC has many Democrats with far more seniority. I don't think she is close to chairing any committee.

15. Whether or not she wants to sit on the court is, of course, up to her
but she could change SO much.

If she's tired of the bullshit of running for president, I understand, but next to president, she could have SO much influence on the future of this country as a sitting SC judge.

I understand her being quiet. If she said "Yeah, I'd love for Obama to nominate me to SCOTUS" then the right wingers will immediately go "If you elect Obama, Hillary will be on the Supreme Court - do you want that??", so she needs to be quiet.

Life as a SCOTUS judge is different, and I don't know if it appeals to her or if she needs more public involvement than it offers, but she could so change the direction of the country. I hope Obama gets in and offers it to her, and that she takes it.

16. I believe her
Considering her age and considering how much can happen in the next 8 years, I think it's a sensible approach. I could see her changing her mind in eight years but it would depend on the tenor of the country and the party. I've never thought the SC held any appeal for her. Like anyone who seeks high office, Hillary has an ego and is conscious of her legacy. Becoming a SC would not be a "first". She was for the first First Lady to become a U.S. Senator and was hoping to be the first female U.S. President. The SC doesn't afford her the same opportunity.

But - looking at it realistically - she has no judicial experience, and that could be an uphill battle in the nomination.

I'd love to see her on SCOTUS just for the entertainment value of seeing wingnuts' heads explode, though I think her mastery of policy detail makes her more suited for legislative work than the judiciary.

32. What she says now is pretty irrelevant.
As has been said above, she shouldn't say anything about the future that the fundies could use as ammo against Obama. I'm sure she has further ambitions, but she's smart to keep them on the down low.

Personally, I would like her in the Senate for a long, long time torturing Republicans. I agree that she could be the 'next Ted Kennedy.' That would certainly not be a bad thing. IMO she be a great new Majority Leader in replacement of Reid. Either way, she's a strong progressive voice badly needed to recover from the excesses of the 'conservative' movement of the past 30 years.

SCOTUS? That I don't know. I like the idea of going younger there. The Repubs have been doing that. Christ, Roberts will be there forever. A liberal counterpoint is needed, with a long future. But aheing said that, she'd probably be a good one.

If Obama makes 8 years, Hill would be a bit old to run again. And there are other Dem women that are good up and comers. I still hope to see a woman president in my time, preferably a Democratic one.
