Joe the Plumber was once Joe the Alaskan (are you surprised?)
By Kyle Hopkins | Anchorage Daily News

ANCHORAGE — The star of Wednesday night's presidential debate used to live in Alaska.

And for once we're not talking about Gov. Sarah Palin.

Long before he was "Joe the plumber," Joe Wurzelbacher lived in North Pole and Eielson Air Force Base outside Fairbanks, according to Alaska public records. A family member says Wurzelbacher came to the state in the mid-1990s and stayed about four years — long enough to have the son who can be seen standing next to him in the now famous YouTube clip of Wurzelbacher grilling Sen. Barack Obama about taxes.

Kelly Morrison watched the debate with her husband in Midtown Anchorage. As the candidates sparred over someone named Joe the plumber, her husband kept telling Morrison that it had to be the Joe they know.

Morrison's sister, Jennifer, is Wurzelbacher’s ex-wife. They've known him for years. At one point, Joe worked as Morrison's plumber when they both lived in Arizona.

Then someone on TV said Joe’s last name.

3. Was he in the AIP?
What's with the people in Alaska anyway? It seems to be a very strange state.

10. Alabama and other states have the Klan. Some states have
white supremists. We have the AIP. Its a tiny portion of our people. I could blame the south for their crazies but it would be wrong.

16. Actually, Alaska has no hate groups, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center.
Ohio, North Carolina, other states around the country have a lot of hate groups. Alaska has none.

Let's lay off Alaska. It has neither the worst governor nor the most crazies per capita of all the states. In fact, Alaska seems pretty cool to me.

17. It's interesting that he lived in both sides of the ticket's states.
It's probably what attracted him to the McCain-Palin ticket in the first place. He's lived in both their states.

9. Could he see Russia from HIS house?
If so, that would make him a foreign relations expert in the McCain/Palin handbook!!! He could put that on his resume along with "plumber" (unlicensed, of course).

11. No...but he could see the toilet (outhouse) from his house, so he
could then call himself a "plumber"
