Gore delivers environmental message at Harvard
Associated Press - October 23, 2008 12:04 AM ET

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (AP) - Al Gore returned to his alma mater to help Harvard University launch its first Sustainability Celebration and commitment to reduce its carbon footprint.

The former vice president and 1969 Harvard graduate, told a campus audience on Wednesday that it's time to find ways to make better use of knowledge to save the global environment. In a reference to Harvard's motto, he said the challenge is to find "truth" in the climate crisis and "use that as a basis of a new concept of who we are."

Gore, who has shared the Nobel Peace Prize and won an Academy Award for his efforts to raise awareness about global climate change, also received an annual service award from Harvard's Phillips Brooks House Association.

1. Gore got out of politics and actually changed the way people think.
¨An Inconvenient Truth¨ is shown in schools all over Mexico and it is making a difference.

2. Reducing co2 emissions 30% by 2016 sounds good.
But that's far from what we have to do, given present technology.

Man, we're up against a big wall. Once this election is over we've got hurdles that mere mortals can't jump. I don't know what we're going to do.

We have to cease carbon emissions completely within a decade, some say. The link to that is in my other computer. It's Kunstler, I believe.

We're screwed.

"So how the Hell are he and his lib-rul, fact-based intellectuals going to stop this global climate change, when me and my republicon corporate cronies continue to make MASSIVE PROFIT, and have control of all the major propaganda organs? Smirk."

4. I still can't understand how Gore can support both environmentalism AND "free trade" with China???

Raise standards at home, then ram through a trade deal with a country which has no standards.

I'll listen to Gore on the environment when he admits how horrible a mistake he made in the '90s.
