Des Moines Register Endorses Barack Obama

DES MOINES, Iowa -- The Des Moines Register's editorial board has endorsed Sen. Barack Obama for President.

In a full-page article on the front page of Sunday's opinion section, the Register wrote, "He can best unite us to do big things."

The article goes on to praise Sen. Obama's speaking ability and his "uncommon intelligence." It said he would work to strengthen the struggling middle class.

The editorial board said Sen. John McCain's campaign is erratic and disappointing and said Gov. Sarah Palin is a burden on the ticket and "utterly unqualified to ascend to the presidency."
