Palin and Hasselbeck blast 'ridiculous' wardrobe story (McCain Camp didn't authorize remarks)
Source: CNN

TAMPA, Florida (CNN) – Ensuring that news of the Republican National Committee's sartorial spending spree will remain in the headlines for at least one more news cycle, Sarah Palin on Sunday sounded off on the $150,000 wardrobe that was purchased for her in September, denouncing the report as "ridiculous" and declaring emphatically: "Those clothes, they are not my property."

A senior adviser to John McCain told CNN's Dana Bash that the comments about her wardrobe "were not the remarks we sent to her plane this morning." Palin did not discuss the wardrobe story at her rally in Kissimmee later in the day.

...

"This whole thing with the wardrobe, you know I have tried to just ignore it because it is so ridiculous, but I am glad now that Elisabeth brought it up, cause it gives me an opportunity without the filter of the media to get to tell you the whole clothes thing," she said.

"Those clothes, they are not my property. Just like the lighting and the staging and everything else that the RNC purchased, I'm not taking them with me. I am back to wearing my own clothes from my favorite consignment shop in Anchorage, Alaska. You'd think — not that I would even have to address the issue because, as Elisabeth is suggesting, the double standard here it's — gosh, we don't even want to waste our time."

...

"And my wedding ring, it's in Todd's pocket, 'cause it hurts sometimes when I shake hands and it gets squished," she continued. "A $35 wedding ring from Hawaii that I bought myself and 'cause I always thought with my ring it's not what it's made of, it's what it represents, and 20 years later, happy to wear it. And then finally the other accessory, you bet I'm a gold — I'm a blue star mom. I'm wearing this in honor of my son who is fighting over in Iraq right now defending all of you."

17. what was he supposed to go to jail for?
I heard two rumors, but no where have I seen it backed up.

The first was meth and the second was cutting brake lines in school busses. Are these just false rumors, or is there something to them?

Thanks in advance, Tumbulu.

21. Nah, it's real
I saw this little travesty on MSNBC this morning. All Palin realy needed was Elisabeth Hasselbeck, exclaiming that, unlike on The View, for once she could talk for five uninterrupted minutes. It was about four minutes and fifty five seconds too long. The two of them were really, really creepy.

16. methinks the lady doth protest too much
furthermore, the issue isn't whether or not she owns the clothes. Is she suggesting the RNC will return used clothing? the issue is that the RNC broke campaign finance laws by this expense and she now needs to claim the clothes as a gift.

You can't wear something for months and then claim it wasn't a gift...unless she's pulling a Ted Stevens.

So, she just put her foot in it again, which is why they didn't want her talking about it.

No, her clothes aren't the same as the lights, though her confusion is understandable since the RNC took the liberty of putting the clothes under the heading of "equipment". Even actors can't deduct their clothing anymore...

Epic Fail.

Also, why is she wearing thrift store clothes now....when she has the entire Neimans store at her disposal? Hypocrite much? Suddenly, on the day after the story breaks, she is wearing her own clothes and this is a narrative that is supposed to sell?

I saw the pink short skirt tribal weierdness she wears as Gov. And yeah, that isn't gonna fly -- so I doubt this jacket was hers before. Let's see her start to wear the stuff we see her wearing in pictures as Gov of Alaska. Long fleece jackets over black dresses.

New narrative: fail.

Busted: GOP and RNC and Palin. Vain, Stupid, and corrupt.

Edited on Sun Oct-26-08 08:46 PM by Sorceress
John Edwards was roasted for getting a $400.00 haircut. This happens to male and female candidates. However, by running as the average, folksy Hockey Mom who is going to reform and stop wasteful spending, you are setting yourself up for a much harder fall. In an economy like this, spending the equivalent of a small condo on clothing is totally going to bring up a red flag and this has nothing to do with sexism or double standards. I am tiring of her "I'm a victim" mentality. I can't wait for her to go back to nobodyville after she loses this election. Good riddance!

25. Yeah, the double standard argument is total BS.

It would be different if the Dem party spent ridiculous amounts of money to buy Obama and Biden some designer clothes, but then the media focused ONLY on Sarah's clothes. THAT would be a double standard, Sarah you idiot. What she's actually whining about not a "double standard," but the media focusing on her hypocrisy. Waaah.

See, she's special. She's got the son that is over in Iraq right now defending all of YOU.

To Sarah:

The word is US. He's defending US. But he's not...

Your son is over there for dubious reasons, and he's trying to clean up a horrible mess your party made with its illegal invasion and endless kill, baby, kill. He's not defending us against ANYONE. If he quit, if our entire military just disappeared from Iraq, it would be a lot quieter over there, and all of the terrorists would race over to Afghanistan to fight us over there. They follow us around, Sarah, they're not headed to America. They can't even get on a plane to this country... their names are all on no-fly lists.

You're one fucking idiot, Sarah Palin. One. Fucking. Idiot.

54. Personally, I think Hasselbeck is delusional. I think she believes
that she is some sort of Oprah Winfrey, and can make John McCain president or something like that. Because she seems totally self-absorbed in her pukiness, whenever they are discussing topics on The View or when Hasselbeck makes appearances on her own. She's like a princess. Someone really should put her in her place.

Daily News)

Gov. Sarah Palin, campaigning in Florida today, told a Tampa crowd she has gone back to wearing clothing from home and said stories about the Republican national Committee spending $150,000 on family fashions were 'ridiculous'."

As stated in the article, Sister Sarah wore jeans at a later GOP event...
