India's Mahindra says no interest in GM's Hummer
Source: Reuters

MUMBAI, Oct 27 (Reuters) - India's Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd (MAHM.BO: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) repeated on Monday it was not interested in General Motors Corp's (GM.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) Hummer brand, which has been put up for sale by the cash-hungry U.S. automaker.

"The company maintains its earlier stand that it is not interested in the Hummer brand," a Mahindra spokeswoman said.

A source told Reuters on Friday that GM would send out a sales prospectus for Hummer to possible bidders in the next few days and Indian automakers Tata Motors Ltd (TAMO.BO: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) and Mahindra & Mahindra were among those who would take a look at the asset.

"Tata Motors does not comment on mergers, acquisitions and matters like these," a spokesman for Tata said.

4. I suspect that the Hummer brand will end up receiving a govt bailout
To produce these vehicles for the military exclusively once they realize nobody wants to buy this cancer of a brand.

6. If they're going to do that they might as well just OWN the brand.
How fucking basic is that? The gov't needs to start making smart business decisions with our money.

8. What for?
Edited on Mon Oct-27-08 11:34 AM by AtheistCrusader
The H2 is a Tahoe, and the H3 is a Colorado, basically. They have no military value. There's nothing to preserve. GM doesn't even make the "H1" civilian version of the HMMWV for civilian markets anymore. They just sell them to China, etc. The US Military is working on a replacement light utility vehicle to phase out the HMMWV, due to the lessons learned in Iraq.

9. Lest we forget Pentagon spending has never been about making sense
It's been about enriching cronies.

If the Pentagon was attempting to spend money in a responsible manner we would never get projects like the "gay bomb".

7. let it die
It only exists because of the tactical successes of the first Gulf War, and everyone wanted to play soldier on the way to pick up cat food.

10. Kinda tough for me me to envision this company selling Hummers.
About six months ago, I'd seen a news report that Tata Motors was attempting to revolutionize Indian transportation with the introduction of the Nano, an affordable, low cost (app. $2000.00 US), no frills (and by no frills I mean no frills: the dash consists of speedometer and gas gauge-- nothing else) sub-compact.

(A concept I wish we'd look at a bit more closely in the US)

Kinda tough for me me to envision this very same company selling Hummers...

11. A Hummer wouldn't even fit down most of the city streets in India
It's about the exact opposite of most Indian vehicles.
