Campaign workers attacked
Source: Galax Gazette (VA)

By Ben Bomberger

Two people were arrested Monday afternoon after an altercation led to five Republican campaign workers being sprayed with Mace at their headquarters in Galax.

Galax Police Chief Rick Clark said officers were dispatched shortly before 1 p.m. to the Galax Republican headquarters on East Grayson Street when a caller reported someone had sprayed office workers with Mace.

Responding officers arrested Daniel Cason Meinecke, 29, and Cara Annis Hindman, 26, both of Galax.

Meinecke was charged with one count of misdemeanor assault, Hindman was charged with five counts of misdemeanor assault.

1. Why denounce? He didn't do it.
McCain didn't denounce the Republican that shot the teenager for stealing his McCain sign.

A Warren Township, Ohio, man faces charges of felonious assault after authorities say he fired his rifle at two teens who were attempting to deface his McCain presidential campaign yard sign.

Police say the man's sign is the only McCain sign on a street full of Obama signs.

Kenneth Rowles, 50, pleaded not guilty to the charge Monday, according to CNN affiliate WBNS.

Bail was set at $10,000.

2. Why does Obama have to do anything.
McCain certainly never apologises for all the racists and hooligans who act up.

16. Yes, of course he is,
but the best persons do not always win, and they win even less when they play by different rules.

19. My thought exactly.
I wouldn't be at all surprised to learn this was another put-up job. At this point, the reThugs are desperate enough to try anything.

6. We don't need this getting broad coverage
and if Sen. Obama made a public statement, it would guarantee just that.

Fear is the last weapon McInsane has to use in this election, it would also be the most effective, unfortunately.

Edited on Thu Oct-30-08 03:18 PM by DebbieCDC
There can't possibly be an Obama supporter within at least 50 miles of the place. This was probably something personal between people/families (lots of intermarrying amongst very few families has gone on there for generations).

On edit: after reading article from local paper, my guess is this was stirred up by the Palinistas.

8. I wondered about a false flag thing, because their record of thuggery must
be a source of embarrassment to some of them. But I suspect your explanation is closer to the truth.

23. Excuse me! I grew up very near there.
My parents still live there - Mom taught at Galax High School for years. For the record, she's been out there busting her ass canvassing for Obama these last few weeks - and she's certainly not alone, and she's encountered a good deal of support.

Also the editor of the Galax Gazette is married to our DEMOCRATIC congressman Rick Boucher (who's represented that district since 1982).

Stereotype much?

9. It looks like there are two sides to this story...
<snip>

Galax Republican Chairman Mike Stevens said he was one of the volunteers sprayed. He said a man and woman came into the office and asked for campaign yard signs for the Democratic ticket of Barack Obama and Joe Biden.

After being told the Obama-Biden campaign office was up the street, Stevens said, the man said he was aware of that, but that he thought Democratic signs were being stolen and “stashed” at the Republican office.

Stevens told him that nobody there had stolen signs, not were they “stashing” any in the building.

10. This is not an "attack." This is a fight that got out of hand, and was provoked by both sides.
Whether the people actually INSIDE the office had anything to do with stealing the signs or not, there are no angels, and no devils in this incident.

11. The Republican admits to laying hands on the Obama supporter first
Edited on Thu Oct-30-08 03:30 PM by IanDB1
“I kind of moved them towards the door and he lashed out at me,” Stevens said. “So I lashed out at him.”

Case closed?

But then again...

Once outside, Stevens said, the woman sprayed Mace on him and another volunteer before turning back to the office and spraying inside the building.

So, they used the mace after they were already safe, and had no case for self-defense?

Bad!

15. I'm with you on this
I wouldn't be surprised if this whole thing was staged by mclame/palin supporters... sounds like the shit that they'd do. Our side is too busy getting out the vote--they're the ones with time on their side and enough anger to do stupid things. Perhaps they were hoping to get a phone call from their lame leaders.
