Taliban's Omar Orders More Attacks on US-Led Troops

SPIN BOLDAK, Afghanistan (Reuters) - Fugitive Taliban leader Mullah Omar approved a new deputy military commander for southern Afghanistan (news - web sites) on Saturday and ordered him to intensify guerrilla attacks on U.S. and government forces, a Taliban official said.

Saturday's announcement follows stepped-up activity by suspected Taliban guerrillas in southern Afghanistan which saw nine soldiers of the 11,500-strong U.S.-led coalition in Afghanistan wounded in several attacks last weekend.

Omar spoke to Mullah Sabir, alias Momin, by radio on Saturday after his appointment by a Taliban leadership council and tribal elders, said Mullah Abdul Samad, an intelligence officer in the hardline Taliban regime ousted in 2001.

"He (Omar) directed him to intensify jihad (holy war) against the forces of the United States and the Afghan government," Samad told Reuters, speaking by satellite phone from an undisclosed location.

1. Rumsfeld said the major combat in Afghanistan is over
If Donny said it, must be true.
Somebody tell the Mullahs.
Maybe they do not have cable or satellite tv.

6. it's hell being "the forgotten evildoer"
How ya gonna go down in history that way?

Actually, considering the amount of cash Mullah Omar absconded with, I'm amazed that he is hanging around drawing attention to himself. I figured he was putting his feet up in the Swiss Alps or something by now.
