Sources: Valerie Jarrett headed to White House, not Senate
Source: CNN

(CNN) — Two Democratic sources close to President-elect Barack Obama tell CNN that top adviser Valerie Jarrett will not be appointed to replace him in the U.S. Senate.

"While he (Obama) thinks she would be a good senator, he wants her in the White House," one top Obama advisor told CNN Monday.

Over the weekend, Democratic sources had told CNN as well as Chicago television station WLS-TV that Jarrett was Obama's choice to fill his Senate seat.

Jarrett, a Chicago attorney and one of Obama’s closest advisers, is a leader of the president-elect’s transition team....

Several other Illinois Democrats have expressed interest in the seat, including Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich will make the final decision on Obama’s successor.

4. Not a good idea.
He would have to be re-elected, and downstate people do not know him, or might dislike him for being "too Chicago."

We can't afford to lose that seat to a republican. And, believe it or not, his name is controversial in many parts of this state. It does not matter that he is not his father.

Duckworth would be a good choice. So would Hynes, or Giannoulias.

Do you live in Illinois? We are very blue, but you have to live here to understand the politics. We produce giants, like Obama, Adlai Stevenson, and Paul Simon. We also produce shits who end up behind bars.

3. Tammy Duckworth would be my choice to replace Obama in the Senate.
She lost a very close race in 2006 to a GOPer that employed the same tactics as Chambliss used against Cleland.

Ladda "Tammy" Duckworth (born 1968) is an Illinois National Guard major and Iraq War veteran from the U.S. state of Illinois.<1> She was the Democratic nominee for the U.S. House of Representatives seat for the sixth district of Illinois, which was being vacated by long-time Representative Henry Hyde, and lost to Peter Roskam by 2% of the vote in the highly competitive 2006 House election.<2> On 21 November 2006, Duckworth was appointed the director of the Illinois Veterans' Affairs Department by governor Rod Blagojevich.<3> She spoke at the Democratic National Convention on August 27, 2008, in support of presidential candidate Barack Obama.<4>

Duckworth's combat wounds in Iraq cost her both of her legs and damaged her right arm. She is married to Major Bryan W. Bowlsbey of the Illinois Army National Guard. In 2007, Bowlsbey was informed that he would be deployed to Iraq in April.<5>
