Indian navy 'sank Thai trawler'

The owner of a Thai fishing trawler has said the Indian
navy sank it off Somalia's coast last week after wrongly
assuming it was a pirate "mother ship".

Wicharn Sirichaiekawat said the Indian frigate had
attacked the Ekawat Nava 5 while it was being hijacked
by pirates.

He said one of the crew had been found alive after six
days in the Gulf of Aden, but that another 14 were missing.

The Indian navy has insisted the vessel fired in self-
defence at a pirate ship which had been stacked with
explosives.

2. the fishing trawlers are to blame: they are illegally fishing to the point of extinction
in those areas....

driving out small time fishermen and leading to the end of biodiversity

4. My old roomate had a good idea.
Take an oil tanker, ballast it down, fly the flag of a nation know to pay ransoms, fill it to the gills with Marines and weapons and then set course through the area. When the pirates approach, sink them. Reflag, lather, rinse, repeat until you run out of pirates.

6. Won't work.....
Treat the underlying problem. The country is a failed state, until people are able to get jobs it will never stop.

5. I am a confirmed Thai-o-phile but I am suspicious about this

Thai fisherman have a long history of piracy.

During the Boat People exodus Thai fisherman conducted thousands of instances of piracy ranging from intercepting boats taking all of their gold and leaving them water and food to taking all of their gold and kidnapping their young daughters never to be seen again.

I would trust the Indian Navy over Thai Fisherman without further information.
