Obama sends condolences to Indian PM for Mumbai attacks victims

WASHINGTON, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President-elect Barack Obama has sent his condolences to Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, whose country was shocked by a series of horror attacks, said his aides on Saturday.

According to Obama's transition team, he spoke to Singh over the telephone on Friday night to express his condolences for victims who were killed in the attacks in Mumbai. However, Obama made clear that there is only one U.S. president at a time but he would be monitoring the situation closely. The president-elect made the call from his transition office headquarters in Chicago, where he was also receiving regular briefing from the State Department.

In a Friday statement, Obama and his wife, Michelle, sent their "deepest condolences to the loved ones of the American citizens who lost their lives in the outrageous terrorist attacks in Mumbai." "Our thoughts and prayers are with them, and with all who have been touched by this terrible tragedy." He also vowed that the U.S. would "stand with India and all nations and people who are committed to destroying terrorist networks, and defeating their hate-fill ideology."

The India authorities terminated the remaining gunmen in Mumbai's Taj hotel on Saturday, ceasing the attack by Islamic militants on India's financial capital that left almost 200 dead, including 26 foreigners.

2. It is not condolences India or Indian-Americans seek ....
we seek all and complete cessation of any sort of aid to Pakistan whether financial or military. Condolences are cheap. Actions are worth far more.

3. I guess that's better than sending Condoleeza.
