Miles O'Brien To Leave CNN; Network Shutters Science, Space and Tech Unit
Source: TV Newser

TVNewser has learned 16-year veteran CNN correspondent and anchor Miles O'Brien will soon be leaving CNN.

O'Brien's departure comes as the network dismantles its science, space, environment and technology unit in Atlanta. That includes O'Brien as well as six producers. O'Brien has been CNN's chief technology and environment correspondent since being replaced as anchor of American Morning in April 2007.

1. See ya, Miles.
I remember all the times you reported half of the story when it came to Bush Administration shenanigans. You are an enabler. If it weren't for you and others like you, who've been willing to ignore the truth all these years, Bush might have been impeached years ago.

Oh...take Soledad with you, will ya? She's just as bad. And Wolfe. And...aw, hell, it would just take to long to name all of them.

2. Maybe he can get a gig with the Science Channel, or Discovery.
I've enjoyed his reports because he's so enthusiastic. It's a shame CNN has decided to go this route.

Yeah, agree. While some of his NASA coverage bordered on boosterism, I
appreciated the coverage. And some of his more general science coverage was really well done, imo, especially in today's media market.

5. That's because we don't have News anymore. It's ratings driven infotainment....
...bleh... preaching to the choir.

7. No, it's "the Planet in Peril franchise"
'CNN spokesperson Christa Robinson tells TVNewser the unit is being shuttered as the network integrates science, environment and technology reporting into the general editorial structure. "Now that the bulk of our environmental coverage is offered through the Planet in Peril franchise, which is part of the AC360 program, there is no need for a separate unit," Robinson says.'

9. Yeah, I was joking in my post...
but I have to disagree with there statement about no need for a separate unit- as a country we need to be exposed to more science and technology. More exposure leads to more curiosity which may lead to more knowledge.

12. I wonder if they're keeping their "faith and value reporter" or whatever bullshit
name is used for this position. I stopped watching CNN after they hired someone who was supposedly addressing "values," as tho anyone who is not a fundie asshole has no values.
