Police: Dallas Shooting Suspect Is Ex-Utah Trooper (Highway shooter)

A man suspected in a series of rush hour shootings near Dallas is a former Utah state trooper wanted on burglary and robbery warrants who apparently shot himself after a standoff with police, authorities said Tuesday

Brian Smith, 37, killed at least one of the victims of Monday's shootings, Dallas police Lt. Craig Miller said. Investigators tied Smith to a killing in Dallas because by matching the bullets found at the standoff, he said.

"We feel safe in saying (Smith) ... was the shooter," Miller said.

Two people were shot and killed and another person was injured by broken glass in four shootings along or near a Dallas-area highway Monday evening. Police believe the victims were selected at random.

Wow, how weird. I also have to wonder if this was a copycat of a TV show plot. Weird that just last Wednesday CBS Criminal Minds plot was of a balding middle-age white guy(played by X-Files Mitch Pileggi-he played Skinner) becoming a highway rage shooter.

Always brings to mind the song, "If I Had A Rocket Launcher", by Bruce Cockburn. In the suburbs where every mommy and daddy drives an urban assault vehicle (also known as an SUV) it is worse. Phones glued to the ear of a driver, watching the brood in the back seat, it leaves little time to actually drive and follow traffic lights and signs.
