White House confirms (pardon) review of Idaho soldier case (convicted in killing unarmed Iraqi)
Source: AP

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho – The father of an eastern Idaho soldier says he has received a letter from the White House confirming that his request that his son be pardoned by President Bush is being "seriously considered."

Curtis Carnahan says he received the letter last week.

Sgt. Evan Vela, a 24-year-old U.S. Army sniper, was convicted in February and sentenced to 10 years in prison for killing an unarmed Iraqi civilian who stumbled upon him and five other soldiers sleeping on May 11, 2007.

Vela also was convicted of planting an AK-47 on the dead man's body and of lying to military investigators.

1. Screw him.
Planting weapons on civilians is a war crime.

2. Wow! I don't want this pig out running the streets. Not one shred
of decency in the coward's body. Not only does he kill an innocent human being, he plants a gun on him to make it look like the guy he killed was the bad guy.

He needs to rot in confinement for his full sentence.

3. sounds like a perfect example of Bush's Warrior Class
he did everything as he should, right down to lying and covering up. What's the problem?

4. This will be well received in Iraq
and put other troops in jeopardy. After the pardon, perhaps Evan Vela can get a job as an office for BART in San Francisco, they are known to shoot people in cold blood just as Mr. Vela has.

6. Can you imagine if Bush refused pardons to those who killed Iraqis for no apparent reason? Where
would that leave Georgie, Dickie, Condi and Rummy?
