President-elect Obama plans to honor Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), his general election opponent, at a dinner on the eve of his inauguration.

Only time will tell . . . but after McCain's comments the other day praising Obama, I am just not nearly worried about the endless filibusters as I once was. Of course, if we had a Majority Leader with a single ball (forget balls) I wouldn't worry either but, alas, it is not to be.

Sooooo . . . is Caribou Barbie invited? If she is, would Obama then be palling around with idiots?

6. It's going to be tough for Obama to achieve bipartisanship.
For over 25 years, this country has thrived on sophomoric name calling, idiot talk show hosts, etc. Some people grew up thinking that politics has always been this way. It hasn't.

10. Many of them on this forum, in fact

Good point.

I can remember when 60 Minutes' "Point Counterpoint" segment was like watching professional wrestling.

26. I don't see how he can achieve bipartisanship because ...
Edited on Sun Jan-11-09 12:42 AM by BattyDem
on one side, we have a political party and on the other, we have a cult. I'm not trying to be funny ... I really do mean it. The GOP has no conscience, no shame and no common sense. Their "party before country" mentality has driven them into an "us against them" frenzy! Anyone who doesn't march in lockstep with the GOP is the enemy. They don't care about making the country better for the people they're supposed to represent, they only want more power. You can't have bipartisanship when one side is determined to win at all costs.

Having said that ...

This is a very classy thing to do. I don't think it will impress the GOP or score him any points with their side, but he's proven that he's a class act. At least the people will know that they won't be stuck with another juvenile, petty man in the White House.

22. He took his best shot

...based on what polls had been saying since mid-year, it's amazing that he tightened the race up at all.

He tried to win. He didn't. He's not an evil person, nor is he insane. Both Biden and Obama know him better than you or I, and they don't seem to share your opinion.

He's just as evil as his buddy George W Bush. He enabled W every step of the way.

13. Hmm... Oh... that's tough....

Being a worthy opponent...

A lifetime of public service...

Bringing a nice gift to Biden's daughter's wedding (yes, he was a guest of the Bidens then as well)...

18. for being such a nitwit, poor candidate
I'd like to toast John McSame for running one the worst campaigns in recent memory. Obama is probably grateful. That and McSame can go back to being McCain. The bushies have cut his tether and he is free to be himself again.

11. Classy All the Way
President-Elect Obama is a man of class and is showing it by gracious gestures such as this. This is such a complete 180 from the past 8 years. We are finally seeing honor and dignity restored to the White House!

Disarm the old coot now, and make it look quite ungracious of McCain to get ugly opposing Obama's agenda later...
