Assad warns of extremist backlash
Source: BBC News

President Bashar al-Assad of Syria has warned that Israel's campaign against Gaza will fuel extremism and terrorism in the Arab and Muslim world.

He called for an end to Israeli military operations in Gaza and said militant rocket fire would also cease.

"The effect of war is more dangerous than war... sowing seeds of extremism and terror around the region," Mr Assad said in an exclusive BBC interview.

1. It's not just the extremists that will be "fueled" up
Even moderates are outraged. That there would be a backlash is a given. Israel has made itself less secure by invading Gaza.

6. Just saying
According to Israel? You're going to trust Israel to tell you what Arabs think? Wow! So I guess we should trust Bush to tell us how the economy is doing.

3. how about this
instead of the situation causing a backlash of extremists, why don't they cause a backlash of sanctioning, and more agressive diplomatic measures. why not cause it to start a global peaceful movement to bring the world's attention to what's going on?

why does backlash always have to be violent? when will the right steps be taken, by anyone, including us?

4. Economic sanctions are indeed the answer
but in the case of the EU they are unlikely due to the amount that the EU exports to Israel.
