Coleman can keep office until Feb. 4, senators say

Last update: January 15, 2009 - 10:49 PM

WASHINGTON - Democratic and Republican leaders agreed Thursday to reopen Norm Coleman's U.S. Senate offices until Feb. 4 to archive and transfer case files on constituent services.

The agreement, approved unanimously by the Senate, falls short of the Minnesota Republican's request to keep his office open another 60 days in order to finish up about 400 constituent requests for service. Under the four-page Senate resolution, Coleman's caseload must be transferred to other Minnesota representatives instead ...

Many of the files are expected to go to Democrat Amy Klobuchar, Minnesota's sole U.S. senator. Her spokesman, Linden Zakula, said her office has already seen an increase in the number of constituent requests for help.

Coleman's offices in Washington and St. Paul were ordered closed on Jan. 5 after the Minnesota Canvassing Board recount showed Coleman 225 votes behind DFL challenger Al Franken.

2. I'm highly disappointed but not surprised.
Senate Democrats empathize way too much with fellow incumbents, regardless of party affiliation.

5. They should take his computers to preserve his emails
Don't let Coleman's crew get a chance to erase his official correspondence.

4. Throw the bum out. Coleman lost and his Senate seat belongs to Al Franken
Joe Biden should swear in Al Franken as the Junior Senator from Minnesota on national television immediately after the inauguration.

Let the Republicans scream - they are powerless

6. If opened to Coleman it should also be opened to Franken and...
The transition should follow. It is time that Franken start to get some keys to the capital since he won the election.

Republicans are such babies.

7. That's fine. The state's business should continue. Transfer it.

8. Uh-oh
I don't see him leaving once he gets there. This is a MAJOR mistake by the Dems. Franken is ahead in the election. Let him move into the office until Feb 4.

I am renewing my prediction that Coleman ends up serving the term, even though he lost the election. Sound familiar?
