Red Line trains are turning back at Farragut North and Judiciary Square Metrorail stations after a person was struck by a Red Line train at Gallery Pl-Chinatown Metrorail station. Riders can expect major delays while emergency personnel respond to the scene.

There is no Red Line train service at Metro Center or Gallery Pl-Chinatown Metrorail stations. People should exit at Judiciary Square and Farragut North to walk to the National Mall.

The train was headed in the direction of Glenmont when it reportedly struck the individual at 9:25 a.m. today (January 20). Police are on the scene investigating the incident.

This suggests the platforms are getting overloaded...

3. That station is horribly designed.
The transfer point to the yellow/blue is at the far north of the redline. Southbound trains none-the-less have taken the lately habit of stopping at the opposite end causing a huge throng of folks to bustle their way from the transfer point to the train. I have commented to personel that this is causing chaos...but they never listen.

I am going to say she was accidently pushed into the track area in the bustle. Insane crowds are the reason why I am not at work today.

4. Update: Person slipped onto tracks (she wasn't hit)
Gallery Place Chinatown is my daily stop for work. Anyway, she's OK:

Metrorail service on the Red Line has resumed after a woman fell on the tracks at the Gallery Place-Chinatown station. However, major delays continue on the Red Line.

Normal service resumed around 10:15 a.m. at the Gallery Place and Metro Center stations. Red Line trains were turning back at Farragut North and Judiciary Square Metrorail stations after a woman ended up on the tracks at the Gallery Place station around 9:25 a.m.

The preliminary investigation reveals that a 68-year-old woman fell on the tracks but was not hit by an approaching Red Line train headed in the direction of Glenmont.

The woman has been transported to an area hospital with non life threatening injuries.

Trains stations have been crowded throughout the day. Passengers are advised to stand at least two feet away from the platform edge for their safety.

6. How does someone "slip" unintentionally?

I've used that station many times ...
How did she "slip"? as opposed to "jump"?
Was she pushed?
It only takes ONE idiot to ruin a perfectly wonderful day.

8. I don't undeerstand either.
I didn't mention this in my other post, but there was some pretty aggressive people on the metro that morning., people were pushing to get on cars on the line I was on, the yellow line. I can guess the same thing happen on the red line.

7. I'm glad to hear that
My family and I got off of the yellow line at China town, to back track to get on the yellow line heading the other way, in order to get on the blue line. I saw the message on the electric message board when we were waiting for the blue line at Reagan National after. I felt bad for the person after for the entire day. Since I felt metro updates I found out that the person was ok, so I felt a little better.
