Canada investigates Taser death

A public inquiry has begun in Canada into the case of a man who died on an airport floor after police officers used a Taser electric stun gun on him.

Robert Dziekanski, a Polish immigrant who did not speak English, was confronted by four policemen at Vancouver airport in 2007.

A bystander filmed the officers repeatedly stunning him with a Taser.

The police were heavily criticised when the recording emerged but no charges were brought.

1. Tasers can easily kill people - proof here

This graph, from Taser's website, shows the output current of a couple of typical tasers. One peaks at about 16 Amps and the other at about 3 Amps. If some of that current flows through a heart it can kill. It takes only 0.05 Amps (50 milliamps) or more to cause a heart valve to stick open.

Now, 0.05 Amps will not always, nor even usually, cause a heart valve to stick open, but it can, and the record on Tasers is clear; after millions of uses lots of people have died from them.
