US co gives Satyam deals to others (State Farm)

NEW DELHI: State Farm Insurance, a Fortune 500 US company, which last week terminated its existing contracts with the scam-tainted Satyam Computer, has now started transferring its projects to other IT vendors, including those from India.

"Satyam was one of the vendors we had. We care transferring a lot of work to other vendors and some is being handled by our own IT staff," State Farm Insurance spokesperson Jeff McCollum told PTI.

"The current uncertainties surrounding Satyam's future and potential impact to State Farm resulted in this decision," he said.

When asked if some Satyam projects are being transferred to any Indian IT companies, McCollum declined to name the companies, citing confidentiality agreement with those companies. "It should not be a surprised to you, given that most of the good vendors in this field come from India," he said.

McCollum said as of now a large number of Satyam employees are still on the project helping State Farm in this transition.
This is expected to take from a week to at the most a month. This should be over in a month at the most, he added.

3. Are you suggesting ......
Indians are incapable of quality work?

Wouldn't that be stereotyping that one should abhor? Such hubris!

6. Not exactly, but somewhat, This is what I'm stating:
I am a software consultant. I have had clients all over the world, although primarily US based. I usually get called in when a software project is having problems and I have to get it back on its feet. Many time in the last 10 years it has been to clean up a non working project that has came back from an Indian outsourcing company. The problem with these companies is not that Indians can't program, it is that they hire entry level programmers that have never done a professional project before. Many of these programmers leave these companies as soon as they get enough experience to by hired by someone else. So not only is it entry level developers, but there isn't a consistent team on the project. The quality in the development process is very low. What you get back at the end of the project usually has to be cleaned up. It is not the programmers at fault but the companies handling them. They hire cheap labor so they can make the most profit on a project. On a side note, there are US companies that advertise themselves as off-site project development teams that have the same faults. I would caution anyone from using an offsite/outsourced company for any project.

9. Not at all...they just do sloppy work.
I've lost count of how many projects that I have had to bail out after the offshored-outsourced project went over budget, timeline and never passed QA.

I'm not stating that they are incapable of quality work... they cannot keep a staff over there because they are too busy hopping from company to company to get a bigger bank role. Much like the late 90's in this country. Indian outsourcing companies have no project management and no quality control. If you say different, you are a liar.

And just a warning to you state farm card holders (because that's all you are, you're certainly not insured)... When another state farm customer hits you, they will not go after that driver for the claim. Instead they just offer to remove your deductible from the repair bill, but tag you with the accident. No state farm v. state farm litigation.

7. I'm stuck with them.
Homeowners insurance is hard to come by in Florida. The only other alternative is state-run Citizens, which is way more expensive. And I'm afraid that if I cancel my auto and MC policies, they'll cancel my homeowners.
