Obama says U.S. 'will not torture'
Names Mitchell, Holbrooke envoys to Mideast, Afghanistan, Pakistan


WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama says the United States "will not torture" as it detains terrorism suspects and works to keep the country safe.

The president also backed Israel's right to defense against Hamas militants and promised to be actively engaged in trying to help foster peace between Israelis and Palestinians.

Obama spoke after Secretary of State Hillary Clinton named George Mitchell to be a special envoy to the Middle East and Richard Holbrooke to be a representative on Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Oh wait...US law, US military field manual, internaitonal law and the GCs already define it.

George W. bUsh just ignored all torture laws.

That's what war criminals do.

to have done against people not even charged with a crime, is illegal.

He didn't say that part? Darn. I missed the news working on a car. Hoped they had announced Bush's arrest. Oh, well, tomorrow is another day.
