Gore joins push for Obama's stimulus

The former vice president is joining the POTUS in seeking quick action on the stimulus.


Former Vice President Al Gore is joining President Obama’s push for a $900 billion economic stimulus, heading to Capitol Hill on Wednesday and e-mailing his list of more than 2 million to urge pressure on Congress.

The former vice president arrived by Amtrak in the icy, snowy capital to testify on the topic of, “Addressing Global Climate Change.”

“The Obama Administration has already signaled a strong willingness to regain U.S. leadership on the global stage in the treaty talks, reversing years of inaction,” Gore says in prepared remarks.

Gore is now chairman the Alliance for Climate Protection, and he e-mailed supporters of the group’s “Repower America” project to “let each of your elected representatives know that you want the recovery to be about repowering America.”

“Entrenched interests in Washington will be working hard to weaken the legislation — opposing funding for clean energy programs that support things like wind, solar, energy efficiency and a new national electric grid,” Gore writes. “Today, we can start to get America back on track.
