Coleman Lawyer: "I Don't Care About Your Procedures" -- Count The Forger's Ballot
By Eric Kleefeld - January 29, 2009, 3:17PM

Norm Coleman is not giving up on forgery as a constitutional right.

Just now in court, Coleman attorney Joe Friedberg launched into an aggressive defense in the case of Douglas Thompson, the friendly Coleman witness from two days ago who said his absentee ballot should be counted even though his girlfriend forged his signature on the application. Thus, Thompson's ballot was rejected because of a very real signature mismatch against his own signature on the ballot itself.

Friedberg didn't directly mention Thompson by name, but he described the exact same situation. "Now suppose I said to Mr. Trimble (another Coleman lawyer), 'Hey, I'm busy, could you sign an application for me, and send it in for me?' I'm gonna get the ballot, aren't I?" said Friedberg.

After some more back and forth, we got to this interesting exchange:

***Friedberg: In point of fact, even though I did something I wasn't supposed to do with the application, my ballot should still count because my signature is genuine.

Deputy Secretary of State Jim Gelbmann: Not according to the procedures we use to determine whether the signature is genuine.

Friedberg: I don't care about your procedures.

(Franken lawyer calls an objection, is sustained.)

Friedberg: Okay, I do care...

9. I agree...here's something I noticed at the polling place...
A lot of people were registering at the polling place. A lot. I watched for a while and every last one of them went into the voting booth and was back out in about 10 seconds. They voted only for Obama and took their ballot over to be counted. That was clear.

I had worried about that earlier, and actually said something to Franken about it at a gathering. He didn't seem concerned about the issue.

Not enough effort was put out to link Obama and Franken by the Franken people. It cost Franken a helluva lot of votes from people who voted only in the presidential race.

Add the third party dweeb and Coleman's incumbency and we had a problem. I still think it'll turn out, but it shouldn't have been this close.

26. Yes. There didn't seem to be much coordination between
the campaigns. Odd, that, since the Senate district caucus (second level) at which I was a delegate from the precinct caucus ended up with the Obama/Franken group deciding the candidates to the state convention (third level and deciding). I was part of that group. Franken was not a shoe-in, at least in my local senate district.

I didn't try to be a delegate to the state convention. It didn't appear that it would matter, and it did not.

I don't remember hearing about any joint campaign meetings or any serious linkage between the campaigns during the campaign season.

11. As the Rude Pundit said, just yesterday:
You need to expect that motherfuckers will fuck their mothers. It's just what motherfuckers do. They fuck their mothers. It's right there in the word. If you put John Boehner's mother in front of him, he will fuck her. Because he is a motherfucker. It's what he knows. It's what all Republicans know. It's their nature.

You can't just think that you'll walk into a group of 'em and say, "Aw, c'mon, stop fucking your mothers." They won't listen. You can appeal in any way you like - it's wrong, it's immoral, their mothers' asses are bleeding. It won't make a whit of difference. The motherfucking will continue, right in front of you. No, you just have to accept that a motherfucker will always fuck his or her mother every chance they can. That they live to fuck their mothers. To expect anything else is to be foolish. And once you accept that motherfuckers were, are, and will always be motherfuckers, you need to act accordingly. You need to treat motherfuckers like the motherfuckers they are.

44. What I mean is this - many Republicans seem to be very disappointed
about the last eight years. Republicans in MN in general are maybe a little more practical than in some other states. Though there were a lot of them who voted for Colemen, they won't appreciate game playing that much, lawyer tricks, and dragging this out on questionable grounds.

51. Well I would hope Franken's attorney would object to show the jury
that the other side is doing something wrong. Otherwise, some might construe it to mean that they approve.

Objections, I thought were also a tactic to emphasize something and get the jury to think about it.

argument if the shoe were in the other foot.. I mean this is going waaaaay past our point about not having ot have ID.... It just seems like Republicans use arguments that suit them.... they would never concede this argument if voter had voted Democratic... maybe when discussing Voting Rights Democrats should cite this BS....just as a demonstration of how opportunistic GOP is.

36. Right. It sounds like a skit Franken might do on his old radio show!
But honestly, looking how Coleman and his team have conducted themselves, it is clearly apparent Coleman is not suitable to be elected Dog Catcher, let alone hold an important Senatorial position. The disregard for the law, and the lack of just plain common sense is so blatant for all eyes and ears to see and hear, that if he were to win this case, he'd never get elected again. As a matter of fact, his behavior seems enough to impeach the selfish doofus.

40. Everything changes once the lying starts.
It seems their strategy is to prolong Franken's absence from the Senate all the way to the Supreme Court hoping they'll vote five to four in Coleman's favor.
If this happens, right wing justices must be impeached. Even if it doesn't happen Scalia and Thomas should be impeached for handing the presidency to Bush in 2000 while each had a conflict of interest in the case.
Scalia especially because he's given the nation the proverbial finger on several occasions. Nino The Fixer, as he was known in the Nixon White House, is a disgrace to the legal profession and essentially a crook. Extraordinary rendition comes to mind.
