Assets of (Yankees outfielders) Damon, Nady frozen in Stanford fallout
Source: AP

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Yankees outfielders Johnny Damon and Xavier Nady are among the investors whose accounts were caught in a freeze by the government of a company affiliated with Robert Allen Stanford.

The pair did not invest directly with Stanford funds but rather have investments with broker dealers whose accounts were with a Stanford company, Scott Boras, the agent for the pair, said Friday. Boras said the personal management wing of his company was monitoring the situation.

"The broker dealers the players have chosen have advised our personal management auditors the players are not in jeopardy of losing money," Boras said. "I understand government agencies are trying to protect the investor. Hopefully, the agencies will distinguish between those investors who are actually invested in Stanford products from investors whose broker dealers used Stanford as a clearing house and are not affected by the potential claims levied by the government.

"I trust government agencies will take quick steps to narrow the affected investor class and restore account access to all others."

"I can't pay bills right now," Damon was quoted as saying by foxsports.com. "That started on Tuesday. I had to pay a trainer for working out during the offseason. I told him, 'Just hold on for a little bit and hopefully all this stuff gets resolved.'"

"I didn't have money with Stanford, but all my credit card accounts are frozen right now because of that situation," Nady was quoted as saying by foxsports.com. "I'm trying to get an apartment in New York. I can't put a credit card down to hold it."

republicon 'get greedy quick' schemes...he and America would be a lot better off.

10. Struggled?!?!?
He's ben pretty good for us. He can't play Center, but he still has good spped in LF and is still one of the best leadoff hitters in baseball... Sanford screwed over quite a few athletes, especially West Indies cricketers, as if they didn't enough trouble already

NEW YORK -- The New York Yankees grabbed center fielder Johnny Damon away from the rival Boston Red Sox, reaching a preliminary agreement Tuesday night on a $52 million, four-year contract.

Details of the deal were still being negotiated and Damon must pass a physical, a baseball official said on condition of anonymity because negotiations were not yet final.

Damon's contract with the Yankees includes a partial no-trade clause, ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney reported.

Moving from Fenway Park to Yankee Stadium will mean a change of style and scenery for the long-haired, bearded Damon -- a fan favorite in Boston for his scrappy play and scruffy look. But New York owner George Steinbrenner bans beards and long hair.

"Sad to say bye to some of the greatest fans in the world. Unfortunately they had to see this day, but it's time for me to move forward," Damon told WBZ television in Boston. "They were coming after me aggressively. We know George Steinbrenner's reputation.

5. ...all of my assets are frozen, too.
I had a great relationship with my stockbroker for over 10 years, so when he moved to Stanford I followed. I don't have any of the Antiguan CDs; in fact, at the moment I'm mostly in cash.

But now I can't get at it, and probably won't be able to for along time. My greatest hope is that I'll get SOMETHING back eventually.

What's tied up at Stanford is virtually all of my life savings, and lest you think I'm a rich person, let me tell you that it is less than a quarter mil.

But hubby and I will never, ever be able to retire without it.

I'm 54.

Are there any DUers out there who got caught, too? If so, PM me, please.

7. You need a heart.
That is really jacked up that they freeze everything so you can't do anything at all. Anyway, a heart and a hug is all I can offer.

11. The Curse of the Bambino is no longer
It's now "The Curse of the Bambino plus Huggins, Gehrig, DiMaggio, Mantle, Munson, O'Niel et al" or for short simply "The Curse of Yankee Stadium".

The angry spirit of the Babe was freed after the Bosox became World Champions and has now found a new cause and new allies with the destruction of baseball's most hallowed ground for greed.

Things have never been right since ground broke for the new, blasphemous stadium. Things will not be right in the Bronx for a long, long time.
