Alaska Gov. Palin's daughter's, boyfriend break up
Edited on Wed Mar-11-09 08:33 PM by Javaman
Source: AP wire via The Huffington Post

WASILLA, Alaska — Levi Johnston and Bristol Palin, the teenage daughter of Gov. Sarah Palin, have broken off their engagement, he said Wednesday, about 2 1/2 months after the couple had a baby.

Johnston, 19, told The Associated Press that he and 18-year-old Bristol Palin mutually decided "a while ago" to end their relationship. He declined to elaborate as he stood outside his family's home in Wasilla, about 40 miles north of Anchorage.

He also said some details of the breakup, rumors of which had been swirling on the Internet, were inaccurate.

Bristol Palin said in a statement issued through a spokeswoman for her mother's political action committee that she was "devastated."

I don't think anyone could have anticipated this.

I know this will probably go to GD, but I thought, what the hell.

This disfunctional situation should be avoided at all cost.

Abstinence from the Palin family is the only solution.

Dam, she said he is white trash. Levi can now give the dirt on Palin family, since Bristol kicked him to the curb. I'm sure his sister got some money for this story. I see this is getting very in-te-resting! Let me get my from row seat to "The Wasilla Hillbilly"

3. Not exactly shocking, but I still feel bad for her
In the last year she got pregnant while in high school, had her personal life scrutinized by the national media, seen her mother become a laughing stock, had a baby, and now she's broken up with her baby's father. It's a lot for anyone to go through, especially at her age.

Now maybe we can expect Sarah Palin's next publicity stunt: aerial hunting and field dressing of Levi Johnston.

11. FYI, the last line of your excerpt is a misquote...
It's not a big deal, and I don't really give a shit about either of them, but the way you have it now, it's saying that Bristol is "devastated" about the breakup, which is not what the article said. She was devastated about the Star report by Levi's sister saying Bristol was basically a bitch who wasn't letting Levi see his son.

<snip>

According to Mercedes, Bristol Palin has almost completely cut Levi Johnston out of her life - and that of their two-month-old son, Tripp.

<snip>

Levi tries to visit Tripp every single day, but Bristol makes it nearly impossible," his sister allegedly said. "She tells him he can't take the baby to our house because she doesn't want him around 'white trash'! She treats him so badly!"

148. Bristol Palin only has her mother to blame...
Part of Palin's entire platform (as well as that of the GOP as a whole) is the whole "family values" BS. I know not only what's best for my children, I know what's best for your children, and no amount of evidence from teachers, doctors, psychologists, sociologists, etc. is going to tell me otherwise on any issue. It's murder to abort a fetus, but isn't it so wonderful that my daughter Bristol chose to keep her baby? And that I chose to keep a Down baby?

Pointing out problems in Bristol's life is not a matter of reveling in this girl's pain, but merely highlighting the all-around incompetence and hypocrisy of her mother and her mother's beliefs. And since Palin still makes sure to pop up in the news every now and then (though she's been lying low recently, probably to let Jindal take the mantle of "GOP village idiot") and will surely be a candidate in 2012, her failures and hypocrisies here are still relevant.

Now, I don't think it's right to laugh at someone because his/her son was arrested on drugs charges, for example, even if the person is a political opponent, but if that person had just been telling me I was a bad parent for letting my son or daughter smoke pot, I wouldn't hesitate to hold up his crack-addicted son as proof of his lack of credibility on the matter (to put it nicely).

167. you mean, Al Gore III, first of all...
If you want to see "thread after thread trashing Al Gore, Jr." (aka the winner of the 2000 election) go to Freeperville.

Second of all, is Al Gore a crazy anti-drug crusader? Sure, he's not pro-legalization AFAIK, but I don't see him going around telling people they're horrible for smoking pot (and he himself admitted smoking it, too). If Al Gore III bought a Hummer and went around clubbing baby seals, then maybe you'd have a point.

"Why not?"

I already told you! Bristol Palin is the result of Sarah Palin's parenting and her beliefs which she wants to inflict upon the rest of America. Her situation is relevant to Palin's (and her supporters') credibility on her own platform. Again, she's anti-choice--but lauds her daughter for "choosing" to keep the baby; she's pro-abstinence-only sex ed... yet her oldest daughter is an unwed teenage mother (you're insane if you don't think that's relevant).

What's truly bullshit is that you think that parents shouldn't be held accountable for how their teenage children act or that their children's actions shouldn't reflect on the parent, especially when those parents want to legislate their supposed "family values."

Now, there is one extraneous reason Bristol Palin specifically receives scorn: she's getting what her mom's political establishment gives to all other white AND non-white unwed teenage mothers in this country. Were she not their then-VP Candidate's daughter she'd just be another teenage whore who couldn't keep her legs together and who won't be marrying the baby daddy (who's probably some ne'r-do-well gangsta anyway; you know how "they" are) and if her name were, say, "Maria Lopez," the radio shows that Sarah Palin frequents would be pointing at this girl and saying "see, this will be the downfall of America!"

But, no, she's Bristol Palin, so instead she's a sweet, intelligent girl who just made a bad decision. But she *chose* to keep the baby and the father will still be included in the child's life, so we should all be happy for her and applaud her maturity in this difficult time! Awwww. :puke:

170. When THEY stop trying to ruin other people's families...
...then their families will be off limits, too. That's the whole god-damned point. They exist to destroy families--whether because one or both parents are here illegally, or gay, or unmarried, or underage, or if the person doesn't even want to be a parent and has an abortion, etc., they never shy away from condemning those people as "what's wrong with America." But when it's one of their own, they put them on the stage at their national convention and give them a fucking standing ovation. :banghead:

mother.

Statistically, the "abstinence only" kids are less likely to use condoms than those kids who have been given proper, realistic sex education. So, maybe she wouldn't have gotten pregnant to begin with.

32. Report: Palin's Daughter Dumps Baby's Father
Source: CBS

The rumormill continues to churn around the Palin family in Wasilla, Alaska. Star Magazine is reporting Bristol Palin, daughter of former Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin, has broken off her engagement to her baby's father, Levi Johnston.

Citing quotes from Johnston's sister, Mercede, the Star's Web site reports the 18-year-old Bristol is estranged from the 19-year-old father of the couple's two-month-old son, Tripp.

"Levi tries to visit Tripp every single day, but Bristol makes it nearly impossible," the Star quotes Mercede as saying.

When news of the pregnancy arose on the campaign trail last year, Gov. Sarah Palin dismissed the issue as a case of "life happens" and urged the media to leave the matter as a family issue. However, Levi Johnston did appear at several campaign rallies during the run up to the November election.

Here's the original report from Star Magazine:

http://www.starmagazine.com/bristol_palin_levi_split/news/15341

The teen love affair that rocked last year's presidential race is over.

Sarah Palin's daughter, Bristol, has ditched her baby daddy, Levi Johnston!

Now's Levi's sister, Mercede is telling all exclusively to Star and the picture she paints of life in Wasilla, Alaska is not a pretty one. Bristol, 18, has virtually cut Levi out of the life of their two-month-old son Tripp.

"Levi tries to visit Tripp every single day, but Bristol makes it nearly impossible. She tells him he can't take the baby to our house because she doesn't want him around 'white trash'!" Bristol won't even allow him to watch the baby for a few hours -- unless he's babysitting!

77. She'll just scratch out Levi's name
From her photo ops speeches and try to put Bristol as a single mom role model even though she is not a typical single mom. I think we all noticed how SP repeatedly said how 5 generations were raising the kid and just threw Levi's name in as an afterthought....now we see why. It had not yet surfaced that they had split. Guess this is the reason he was not invited along for the interview.

47. Because You "Cons" Are the American Morality Police
Family values is what you stand for; abstinence not birth control is your creed for teenagers.

We are not in any way bashing Bristol. In fact, we are embracing the young lady and only wish her success, happiness and a modicum of normalcy.

However, her life is in direct contravention to her mother's political ideology...which progressives have pointed out, ad nauseum, are unrealistic and overreaching for any political party.

In other words, you and your ilk tend to be the nastiest sort of hypocrites.

95. No, the news is in the fact that...
... a person with no qualifications who seeks to present herself as the heir apparent of the Republican throne based upon the solidity of her good old fashioned family values evidently has not been able to foster even within her own family the warm, fuzzy, Father Knows Best, conservative, Christian paradise she aspires to impose upon the country. No one cares about the daughter, whatshersname, but by making family values a pillar in her public life, Sarah Palin has made her family life a public matter, as it speaks to the credibility of her policy proposals. If she would care to withdraw her goal of restoring the good old days of feudalism, then her private life (and her family's) could remain private. Until then, the success of the model of family values she would have the country emulate in its policies is newsworthy.

Sarah Failin and her ilk lost a battle, but they have by no means conceded the war. She and her party are still doing everything in their power to undermine the success of a Democratic administration and advance their failed policies and she personally is still maneuvering to be the Republican presidential candidate in an electoral race I expect her to announce before so much as six months have elapsed in the current administration's term. So what's really changed?

Why should Republicans be allowed to prescribe what is best for all of us and then not follow it themselves and not be called on it? It is Republicans who insist that all families must consist of a straight married couple who goes to church, etc., and the obvious fact that it does not insure offspring turn out to follow the rules they were taught does much to undermine Republican claims about what works in society.

We are only getting one view of the story here. It might have more to do with Levi's Mom being involved with drugs. I hope for all those involved, the situation becomes balanced and sane.

Sarah was selfish to force these two young people into the spotlight. This was going to be difficult enough without a media feeding frenzy.. They all need assistance.

I think Bristol was smart enough to realize that she needed to run far away from this family. I mean really, would you want you baby to be in the care of someone who sold drugs? Now that the campaign is over, she can make some rational decisions about this relationship and say the sex was fun but now it's over and she needs to get on with her life and try to raise her child the best that she can, with or without a father.

99. I suspect but don't know for sure
that is the reason she doesn't want Levi to take the baby over to his house. I do agree that I would have the same reaction to a drug dealing Grandmother. I think it would likely change if Levi had his own place and they agree to what kind of exposure the baby has to Grandma (no solo visits, Levi must be there, no dealers, dealing or using while visiting the baby,) or no visitation at all because grand parenting is privilege not a right. It's a privilege one earns by character and behavior).

I think they can figure out what's best for the baby and align both their desires to keep him safe. This is something they both need to be on the same page about. The more people who are looking out for the little guy the better.

While Bristol does show uncharacteristically un-Palin flashes of intelligence (realizes abstinence-only education doesn't work, dumping your sorry ass), and you are a troglodyte with nothing going for you from the neck up, the further you're away from it all, the better your life will be, and if you stay in Alaska, I can guarantee that your former future mother-in-law can and will make your life hard.

So get out of the state. Get a job dealing blackjack in Vegas or something. You may never realize your dreams (whatever they may have been), but you can at least avoid one big nightmare.

96. Hmm. Wonder which "tell all" magazine will offer Bazillion $$ to Levi for the "real story" ???
The inside scoop on the Palin family, the McCain family, the campaign... even Joe the Plumber....

Levi has so much to tell.
Let's face it... he had NO INTENTION of ever marrying Bristol (as she had no plan to marry him).
The plan/marriage/clean-up act was the McCain Campaign's disaster preparedness report.

I don't see Bristol dropping a dime on her mother and McCain.... BUT... I do think they all better watch out because hell hath no fury like a hockey player who was forced to wear a suit on prime time.

97. I think Palin's daughter is entitled to her privacy. She never ran for public office,
and the 2008 campaign is over. This bullshit gossip has no policy or organizing implications for us: it merely plays to prurient assholes who think they need to have some opinion about a teenage girl's crotch

109. IIRC, over 90% of teen pregnancies end in a breakup or divorce.
Over half of teens who get pregnant don't get married in the first place. Of those that do, 30% will be divorced by 25 years of age, 60% will be divorced by their 15th anniversary, and 80% by their 25th. The most common complaint? "He/She isn't the same person I married."

How many of us adults can honestly say that we act with the same maturity level, and have the same interests, that we had at 17? Our personalities change as we mature, and that "perfect match" at 16 can easily become the person you wouldn't take a free drink from at 25.

As I recall, they weren't thrilled about Daddy-o running for the White House to begin with.

Because let's face it, there's nothing inherently wrong with Jenna or Barbara -- they just happened to have the media spotlight turned on them in their late teens/early twenties. I'm glad there wasn't a friggin' camera crew following me around during that period of my life!

133. Update from Mudflats: "Scowly Bristol" whisked thru airport

http://www.themudflats.net/2009/03/11/palin-johnston-wedding-is-off/

A Mudflatter on the ground in Juneau says that a scowly Bristol and baby caught a flight out of Anchorage yesterday, and were whisked through the airport at record speed by someone flashing a badge, and escorted across the icy tarmac and whisked out at the other end by senior airport personnel. How many frequent flier miles do you need to get the “whisking” treatment? Just askin’.

140. Hmmm, cozy with the swim coach?
From the Mudflats comments:
Philip MungerNo Gravatar (09:42:18) :

Bristol IS attending Wasilla High School. She goes in at least two times per week to work or volunteer as a teacher’s aide to the WHS swim coach, with whom she appears to be spending a lot of extra time too also.

Other than that, she does appear to have once again dropped out…

------

ravenstrickNo Gravatar (10:09:11) :

Yep - that’s Willow in the picture at Radar.com.

Meantime, Wasilla Swim Coach?? It’s always the swim coach, isn’t it?

Well, Matt Hanley kind of looks like Levi with a beard, so at least she’s consistent.

http://www.teamunify.com/Contact.jsp?team=aznlsc

------

the problem child (an aunt, also) (10:41:02) :

Matt Hanley is far better looking than Levi IMHO. But also over 30. Not cool if you are eighteen.

-----

Philip MungerNo Gravatar (10:50:09) :

At least Matt isn’t married. BTW - my source isn’t alleging an affair, just that along with Bristol working or volunteering as his assistant or “aide,” she is spending other time with him. No details past that.

134. I got another link thanks to Americablog
http://www.radaronline.com/exclusives/2009/03/bristol-palin-levi-johnston-break-off-engagement.php

Sarah Palin's 18-year-old daughter Bristol has reportedly broken off her engagement with Levi Johnston, the father of her 2-month-old son Tripp. It's surprising because in an interview just last month with FOX's Gretta Van Susteren, Bristol said the 19-year-old Levi is a hands-on dad and that they planned on marrying after finishing their education.

But in a new interview with Star Magazine, Levi's sister Mercede Johnston says Bristol actually broke up with Levi more than a month ago, is not attending school and rarely lets her baby daddy see their young son. Mercede also says Bristol even told him that she hates him and, when she learned she was pregnant, wished the baby wasn't his.

Mercede told Star: "Bristol's just crazy. That's the nicest way I can put it. She and Levi actually broke up a while ago!"

Apparently, Levi is also far from being a hands-on dad. Said Mercede: "Levi tries to visit Tripp every single day, but Bristol makes it nearly impossible for him. She tells him he can't take the baby to our house because she doesn't want him around 'white trash.' She treats him so badly!"

Hmmmm....a while ago as in prior to the GVS interview?? So any reference that Bristol/Sarah made about Bristol/Levi having a future relationship was BS???

Bristol tells Greta van Susteren that Levi's gonna make her a June bride, but the truth is they broke up long ago. Like mother, like daughter.
