NY AG gets list of AIG workers who got bonuses

New York's attorney general says American International Group Inc. has given him the list of employees who received a total of $165 million in retention bonuses.

Attorney General Andrew Cuomo said he won't release any employees' names until his office has answered any security concerns raised by the AIG employees.

He also said he will work with AIG in the coming days to determine which workers have decided to return the payments.

Cuomo had sought the names from AIG chief executive Edward Liddy through a subpoena. The deadline was Thursday.

AIG has been come under sharp criticism from government officials including Cuomo and President Barack Obama for paying retention bonuses to employees in the unit that led to the insurer's near-collapse. AIG has gotten $182.5 billion in federal aid.

1. Hopefully Cuomo has a staff full of leakers
These people at AIG work for us. They are paid with our tax dollars now, and just like any other federal employee, their salaries should be public.

3. They're salaries are not the problem..
I'm pretty sure it is known who got what..their names are what is problematic. Because the hundred or so worked for AIG the public wants to string them up because the media says they're the bad guys.

7. Yeah, I like how you think.
Find somebody that you can nail politically, and bring the full weight of government down on them. Did they do something illegal? Like *that* matters.

I'm sure that a progressive-thinking president can find ways to use the mechanisms of government to persecute ... I'm sorry, *prosecute* the innocent ... er, the guilty.

Now, if only * had actually done the foul, evil, and unconstitutional things that we said he'd done and which would clearly have merited a swift and sure impeachment then, well ... he'd have done what you want Obama to do.

Are you sure you're on Obama's side?

9. Betcha most of the big money recipients are British and not subject to US tax laws....
...

The legislation wouldn’t attempt to impose the tax on foreign employees of companies such as AIG, said Ways and Means Committee spokesman Matthew Beck. Many of AIG’s bonus recipients work in the London office of the credit-default swap unit.
