UK foreign secretary: Iraq inquiry to be held soon

LONDON (AP) — British Foreign Secretary David Miliband says an official inquiry into the Iraq war will begin soon after the bulk of British troops leave the country this summer.

Miliband says an inquiry into the U.S.-led 2003 invasion and its aftermath will start as soon as is practical after July 31, when all but a few hundred British forces are due home.

Miliband did not specify Wednesday what form the inquiry would take. Opponents of the war have called for an independent public investigation of the conflict, in which 179 British personnel have died.
