G20 protests: Rioters loot RBS office after clashes in City
Source: Telegraph

Riot police have been deployed near the scene but the protesters appeared had a clear run of the building for several minutes. The bailed-out bank was known to be a target of anti-capitalist groups in advance of the protests, but police efforts had concentrated on defending its headquarters on Bishopsgate in Liverpool Street, around half a mile away.

Earlier, eleven arrests were reported before a tense standoff developed between rows of police holding batons and a surging crowd outside the Bank of England.

4. LOL. Reminds me of when Bonny and Clyde try to rob a bank and the banker shrugs and
Edited on Wed Apr-01-09 11:06 AM by FailureToCommunicate
says sorry, all the money is already gone.
Seriously, though, the Royal Bank of Scotland has, what, THREE times the assets of
the UK as a country. Or had. They can afford to replace a few broken windows. (And no, I'm not condoning destruction of "private" property.)

3. Any evidence that damage of any sort occurred? Certainly not
supported by the video at the site. Seems like "some say" reporting to me.

(Absolutely not aimed at you, NashVegas, you have posted the OP accurately, and thanks!)

5. I'm Sure Telegraph Was Inflating It
To scare people about those nutty anarchists, you know? That's why I didn't bother copying as much as I could. (Personally, I'm cheering them on, as long as it's not PSYOPS or something.)

8. No, it did happen, i watched it but i'm
with you, I ain't gonna miss much sleep worrying about a robber bank getting some windows smashed.

(They also wrote graffiti on the walls that said 'THIEVES' - highly appropriate)

Any chance of wall street getting the same???

9. Its totally accurate and
IMO probably quite justified. I wouldn't outright support it, but as i said on another post i won't lose sleep over a thieving bank getting smashed up...

Check out videos on 'Newsnight BBC' and Sky News' lots of footage there...

6. The news sure seems to be looking for ANY signs of disturbance.
On msnbc they had a breaking news to show a few people being shoved by the mass of the crowd. If some rich guy wanted to discredit the protesters it wouldn't take but a couple hired hands to create an 'indecent' and make them all look bad.

7. There's a lot of anger against RBS and it's former CEO, Fred Goodwin
Seems that Fred resigned from his position as CEO of RBS in January - an left with a £700,000 yearly pension for himself.

The problem? One month later, RBS announced a £24.1 BILLION loss, the biggest in UK history.

And on March 25th, a group of activists vandalized his home, breaking windows and damaging a car.

I heard an interview with typical Scots in the street and their reaction was almost always the same - "I don't like the vandalism, but the guy had it coming..."
