Palin formally unveils new legal defense fund
Source: CNN

(CNN) – Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, facing a string of costly ethics complaints, formally unveiled a defense fund Friday to help pay her legal fees — now surging past the half-million dollar mark.

"For Alaskans, the time has come to end the siege on our government by political tricksters. Enough is enough. With the help of reform-minded advocates from across our nation, we will stand up for what is right," said a message on the Web site for the Alaska Fund Trust.

"Your maximum contribution of $150.00 will allow the Governor, her family, and her colleagues to retire their legal debt at no cost to Alaskans and reduce the incentive for mischief by her opponents. Together, we can help Governor Palin and future elected officials turn back the tide of overtly partisan and unnecessarily personal political attacks."

Kristan Cole, a Palin ally from Wasilla, will run the fund, which she described as "one of the most restrictive and transparent legal funds in history." The group said it plans to voluntarily release the names of donors and size of their contributions.

6. No, the $500K is the size (so far) of her legal EXPENSES!
I gotta give it to her on hubris though-- implying that without this fund, somehow the AK taxpayers would be on the hook for her lawyers fees.

No shit.

You, Sarah, are not one of them. You're too stupid. But your handlers are! So...bu-bye Sarah.

if she is. Good strategy. Or not.

10. "Retire their legal debt at no cost to Alaskans"?
Does that mean if she doesn't raise the dough, she's going to try to pass a special tax on Alaskans to pay her legal fees? And what does it mean when she says "we can help Governor Palin and future elected officials turn back the tide"? Is she saying that this will become a catch-all slush fund to pay the legal expenses of future sleazy politicians?

Maybe it's time to consider letting another political party run things in Alaska? The Republicans seem to be about nipple-deep in bad doo-doo.

11. Wondering about that also - maybe she would funnel some of that oil money
that keeps taxes down into a fund for herself?

14. Maybe we should all donate to her fund

Then the records they're going to release will show that thousands of people donated 1 cent each.

17. Point of order here, Sarah..
It's not a "siege on government."

It's a siege on you.

18. Her "family". As in paying Bristol's soon to be fees?
Nicely worded description. For the "governor, her family, and colleagues". Anyone else, Sarah? And which colleagues? Ones that are being investigated now or ones we don't know have done wrong yet?

21. The fund manager's mother knows a thing or two about funds herself
Early in 2002, B.C. broker Cheryl King shocked the local real estate community and the 35 sales reps at her Re/Max Assist Realty office in Kamloops when she disappeared, along with trust fund money and real estate commissions.

She faced charges of fraud, breach of trust and forgery, but it took until last month before the issue was resolved. King, now known as Cheryl Moseley, pleaded guilty to one charge of illegally accessing trust funds on June 21, reports The Daily News in Kamloops.

22. Someone needs to read the fine print....donees do NOT need to say WHY they are withdrawing money
from the fund...there is language in there about "minors" and who can take money out for the MINORS...gee, wonder who the minors are in this
case??
This is nothing more then an extra piggy bank for them to live off of...
