Waiter, there's a snake in my broccoli
Source: AFP

NEW YORK (AFP) — Meat and veg is fine, but a snake head with broccoli?

That's what a diner in upstate New York says he found on his plate during a meal at the popular chain T.G.I. Friday's.

"We immediately pulled the broccoli from this restaurant and began an extensive investigation," said Amy Freshwater, spokeswoman for Carlson Restaurants, the parent company.

"In addition, we are sending the object to an independent laboratory for testing. We... regret that this situation occurred in one of our restaurants."

4. Bah! Stuff happens in NATURE
I remember being a waitress back in the 80's and a customer called me over and pointed to her steak/potatoe/with veg. dinner and said, "What's that?" (pointing to her plate). I looked and said, "Parsley" and then she said, "no LOOK"....and I then saw a perfectly intact dead grasshopper ~ the EXACT same shade as the parsley ~ laying there on her plate.

I said, "Looks like a grasshopper"

To which she agreed. I took her plate away and the price of her and her companion's dinner was refunded.

Stuff happens in nature.....it's not 'BAD' - it just "is". No reason for a big "OMG" reaction. geesch!

6. I remember a cricket in my arroz con pollo.
It was about thirty years ago. We did not have to pay for our dinners, but I wasn't hungry any more anyway.

I did drink several free margaritas.

13. At least it wasn't the green beans.
Edited on Fri May-08-09 12:54 AM by OnyxCollie
Or it might have been a mouse or rat head.

Woman finds mouse head in green beans
http://www.heraldextra.com/content/view/239228/

But, hey. They could have gotten a hundred bucks.

For a whole mouse, it might have been $150
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21133122/

Maybe even $200. And, really. It's not like anything was wrong with it...

Man who found rat head in beans says canner told him contents of can would have been safe to consume
http://www.beaumontenterprise.com/news/22729949.html

Cane said he was told the can's contents were "safe enough to eat because (they're) sterilized."

Although we have not had a chance to fully investigate this matter nor hear back on the results from the independent laboratory, we do know and can confirm scientifically that had there been any foreign material inside of the can, due to the stringent cooking process, the complete contents of the can would have been commercially sterile and would not have posed any sort of health hazard or threat to the public. Again, the Pasteurization process renders the product sterile and completely safe for consumption.

Now that's good eatin'!

While it is our goal that our products be aesthetically pleasing to our Customers, incidents such as this pose no health hazard or risk. Obviously this is a raw commodity grown in a field and as such, is subject to exposures that occur within nature. The FDA governs our processes and recognizes that there is no measure within the canning industry to prevent incidents of foreign material from entering the product 100% of the time.

And it looks good, too!

18. Down here it was a huge cockroach...a huge live cockroach..
obviously poisoned, as it walked slowly from under the bowl of salad to the top of the salad.

They offered a free meal and no charge for what we had eaten so far ..but I suddenly had no appetite.
In fact, i was feeling very close to "returning" what I had eaten so far.
Got a free dinner coupon instead, which i gave to someone I dd not like very much.
